HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-25-1990 TRAFFIC COMMISSION MINUTESTRAFFIC COMMISSION MEETING July 25, 1990 The Traffic Commission held their meeting on Wednesday, July27, 1990, at City Hall. Those present: Bob Sobba, Wally Cory,Charles Gray, Mike Gable, Schuyler Enochs, Gary Vezzoso and GrantGibbons. The Commission discussed and passed the following signchangesandremovals: 1. A speed 1 imit 15-mph sign on the corner of 7th and Grantfacingnorthon7thAvenue. Suggest that it be removed and replaced with 25-mph park area sign. 2. A speed limit 15-mph sign is on the corner of 6th andGrant, facing north on 6th Avenue.Suggest that it be removed and replaced with 25-mph park area sign. 3. A speed limit 15-mph sign on the corner of Kimball andGrant, facing east on Grant Street just west of KimballAvenue. Suggest that it be removed and replaced with25-mph park area sign. 4. A four way stop intersection at 5th Avenue and FreeportStreet. Suggest that Freeport be a through street.Remove stops on Freeport, but retain those on 5thAvenue. Remove stop signs on Freeport and Kimball Avenue and Freeport and Boise Avenue to make Freeport athroughstreet. 5. Yield signs are posted on the intersection of 13thAvenueandEverettStreet. Thse signs force 14th Avenuetraffictoyield. Suggest that they be removed entirelysothattheintersectionisunmarked. 6. Yield signs are posted on the intersections of IllinoisAvenueandLocust, Cherry, Alder, and Beech Streets.These signs force Locust, Cherry, Alder, and BeechtraffictoyieldtoIllinoisStreettraffic. Suggestallyieldsignsheretobechangedtostopsigns. 7.Stop sign facing east on Hillcrest and Indiana should be changed to face south on Indiana which is a dead endstreet. The Commission also addressed the following inconsistenttrafficsignsasfoundbytheTrafficSafetyCommittee: A.Four way (perpendicular) intersections with one or moreyieldsigns (see #6 above) 1. 13/Everett - ebd and wbd Everett to yield to 132. Illinois/Locust - ebd/wbd Locust 3. Illinois/Cherry - ebd/wbd Cherry 4. Illinois/Alder - ebd/wbd Alder 5. Illinois/Beech - ebd/wbd Beech B. Four way intersections with only one stop sign 1. Beech/Ohio - nbd Ohio 2. 11/Arthur - sbd llth 3. Idaho/Fillmore - nbd Idaho 4. 7/Fillmore - wbd Fillmore C. Four way interesections with two stops 1. Ohio/Willow ebd/wbd Willow misleadsmotoristsonOhiointothinkingOhiowillbea through street for them from Linden south to its termination, leading to inattention at other openintersections (a 20 mph zone on each street) 2. Airport/Maple Airport is a through street from Ash to Linden with vehicles having to stop andyieldatAirport, with this exception - Maple isdeadendtotheeastIhavebeentoldthata pedestrian fatality led to the posting) D. Misleading sign 1. Maple is posted as a dead end street west of Airport although it goes through to Meadow and then loops to Walnut and has done so for at least two years. With the exception of item B3, the Commission voted toremovealloftheabovedesignatedsigns. With regard to the Idaho/Fillmore interesection, theCommissionvotedtohave3stopsignswithayieldsignplacedontheislandon13thAvenue. Wally Cory read a letter from Ben Colley expressing hisconcernforthesafetyandmovementofpedestriantrafficonIllinoisoncethenewschoolisinoperation. The CommissiondiscussedthevariousproblemswithIllinoisAvenue. SchuylerEnochssuggestedcontactingtheWhittenbergerFoundationforfundstoconstructsidewalksandotherspecialconstructionitems. Other business discussed: 1. Ustick Railroad crossings. 2. College of Idaho construction project - impact ontraffic. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 a.m. Grant Gibbons, Secretary
