Staff/Representative Reports:
Golf Professional Brett Williams reported that the majority of the tournaments have re-signed up for this
year. He also noted that weekend play has been very good and not as dependent on the tournaments for
revenue generation. At the current pace,Brett is anticipating the golf enterprise fund to be able to balance
out revenue and expenses this year. He noted 10 newer carts have been purchased for Fairview Golf Course
and they will continue to look for opportunities to bolster the fleet there. He noted that Men's league play
will begin on May 18`h and continue every Tuesday evening until late summer. The league will be a two-man
team format and interest has been very strong with anticipation of filling the course each week with a 6:00
PM shot-gun start. Brett also noted the continued excellent work of Pete Burton. The Junior Golf clinics
and adult classes are very popular and fill quickly. The courses have been able to host multiple high school
events this Spring with both Middleton and Caldwell High using the facilities for practice and hosting
matches/tournaments. At this time, the courses are pretty well staffed. At Fairview,hole#4 will be
shortened as the netting that protects the street and homes adjacent to the hole is not functional and is cost
prohibitive to replace at this time. The website for Purple Sage has been updated and is far more user friendly
on PC and mobile devices. Thank you to those instrumental in updating including Jeanne Cridebring. The
men's association is holding a 3-person scramble event at Fairview and the field filled quickly with members
and others from around the area. Brett and the board also acknowledge the excellent course conditions this
spring and express appreciation to Ken Wheeler and the crew. Brett has been spacing the tee times at 10
minutes apart which seems to aid in better spacing on the course and less congestion resulting in higher
atis'faction for the players. Play at Fairview has also significantly increased this season so far in large part due
to having additional carts and more people getting out to play. With the cart spaces for rent at Fairview
becoming available,Brett will be contacting each renter directly. Brett mentioned that they are looking for
some work to be done for the score board area at Fairview. The suggestion of having a potential Eagle Scout
project or other individual is most likely.
City of Caldwell Report: Carol Mitchell reported that the new carts were paid for via a loan to the golf fund. This
would include the equipment and upgrades to battery care. The new carts are expected to generate increased
revenue and improve the quality of the playing experience. To better balance out the oversight,Pete Burton will
be in the pro shop at Fairview a couple days a week. Carol also explained the City Council's adoption of an
updated nepotism rule for employment at the City of Caldwell. Finally,Carol provided more detail on the
resolution for cart storage and the discontinuing of a"wait-list".
Superintendent: No Report this time.
Report on Women's Association: Jeanne Cridebring, the Women's Representative reported that the CLGA
is now up to approximately 55 members—showing significant growth. The weekly events have had excellent
participation and the process has been efficient and effective in meeting the COVID-19 precautions. On May
4`',the CLGA will hold it's Spring Fling at Fairview. On June 25th&26th,the 2-Lady Best Ball will be held.
Jeanne also reported that there has been one travel team event so far and the team is looking strong again.
Finally,it was noted that the pace of play has been very good again with rounds averaging under 4 hours to
complete.
Other Items: Will be considering having a marshal at Fairview on the weekends to keep the pace of play up
and monitor for any needed reminders to the players. The City of Caldwell has as a priority to install fiber-
optic systems for improved Internet availability and function.
Report on Men's Association: No report at this meeting.
Junior Golf Report: Junior golf participation continues to increase significantly. The junior play program will start
in June at Fairview on Thursdays and a Fall junior program will be after school on Wednesdays. There will be an
Idaho Junior Golf event at both Fairview and Purple Sage this season. Pam will consider reaching out to the Elk's
to see if they are interested in beginning the junior golf event that they held for many years again.
Adjournment:
Doreen Burnham moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:50 AM,Shirley Akagi seconded the motion, motion
carried. The meeting was adjourned. Next meeting will be Wednesday,June 16`'',2021 at 8:00 AM.
