Old Business: New Business: Staff/Representativ:. Reports: City of Caldwell Report: Carol Mitchell and Ken Wheeler provided an update regarding equipment and cart storage at Fairview Golf Course. After bids for adding onto the cart storage shed and building an additional free- standing structure were received, the city moved forward. Construction will be completed in 2021. The Mayor approved funds to be used from the general fund at the city to cover the cost of the additions as accounting evaluation identified that costs would not be recovered—even over time. The work being done is adding onto the current shed to accommodate parking course maintenance equipment and city owned carts for rental. Additionally,a free-standing structure will be built to the south of the existing structure. It will house 12 private carts that will be diminished through attrition over time and be replaced with city owned carts available for rent. Current tenants have been notified via certified mail of the need to vacate the current location while the construction is completed. Those who will be able to lease a storage place will be notified by the city and determined based on criteria—including that they have been current tenants. The first criteria will be that they must live within the city limits and purchase a season pass. The second criteria include living in the greater city impact area and must purchase a season pass. The golf board and longtime members at Fairview express sincere appreciation to the Mayor and city officials for their consideration and efforts to accommodate the membership at Fairview. i 4 a Carol also reported that the revenue trend for the golf enterprise fund showed very positive trending. While the revenue did not fully cover the overall operational costs(was short just over$40K), it was improved (by nearly $60K)from 2019. It is hoped that with the trending for the past two years, that the golf enterprise fund will be self-sustaining again beginning this year. The majority of the profits are from standard green fees, cart rentals, pro-shop merchandise and driving range fees. The snack-bar was very close to breaking even. Therefore, it is anticipated that the snack bar will remain with a limited menu again in 2021. Finally, season pass sales have already reached 100 for 2021 and are expected to surpass last year's sales. Brett and the city will monitor this closely and determine if they will need to be limited next year—similar to what other courses around the valley do. Golf Professional Brett Williams reiterated the very positive trends in revenue and improved operations for both courses. He noted that there is very strong interest in having tournaments hosted at Purple Sage— nearly all that were booked for 2020 and had to be canceled,as well as others. He will limit any new ones to weekdays only. In June, there will be two new junior golf events that are expected to net some revenue—one will be at Fairview and the other at Purple Sage. They will be held during the week. Brett further noted that revenue so far in 2021 is up significantly over 2020—mostly related to the favorable playing conditions. Brett also noted that there will be noticeable improvements and services added at Fairview. This will include a deep cleaning,re-gripping station, improved merchandise in the pro-shop and increased cart rental availability. Al and Slade will be the primary help at Fairview, but Pete and Brett will also have a regular presence there. Brett also noted that Men's league will be conducted on Tuesday evenings this season due mostly in part to limited interest. If there is greater interest and demand,Wednesday league will be considered again. Men's league is set to begin on May 18`11 Superintendent: Ken Wheeler reported that his primary mechanic retired at the end of last season. He has hired a new mechanic (Britton) who has started and is getting up to speed already. Ken was also able to hire a new Assistant Superintendent,Chris\Werschkul. Chris was most recently an assistant at Spur Wing The Club and prior to that fruin the State of Washington. We want to welcome Chris and Britton and look forward to their help in continuing the excellent playing conditions at both courses. Ken also noted that the cart path project will continue this season as availability allows. At this time,it is likely something that will be taken up again in the fall. The city's street department will continue to provide the majority of the asphalt work on the project. Finally, due to the significant amount of play through the winter months so far, the courses have shown some wear. However,it is anticipated they will bounce back as the weather warms again and the grass begins to grow. The board wishes to recognize Ken and his crew again for the fantastic course conditions and work they do all year long. They have earned a well-deserved reputation for having the best course conditions in the valley! Report on Women's Association: Jeanne Cridebring, the Women's Representative reported that the CLGA is ready to kick off play on March 2'1 at.Fairview and March 4th at Purple Sage. They will continue the same protocols that were established for COVID and proven to work quite efficiently. This includes texting Jeanne the night before if planning to play. This allows Jeanne to arrange with the course and minimize the need to gather in the club house. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the opening social will not be held again this year and the CLGA will not need to serve at the men's breakfast that will also be canceled again. Jeanne will order the flowers for Purple Sage again—the city has agreed to cover the costs as previous years the costs were covered by the CLGA work at the breakfast. Jeanne again reported the excellent work that the CLGA is doing to support Meals on Wheels. Well over 100 individuals were served as a result and $900 raised by the CLGA. Many of the ladies purchased gift items (socks, gloves, slippers, etc.) that they included with the meals served. The board would like to express sincere thanks to Jeanne and the members of the CLGA that have done so much'Lo give back to the community. Finally,Jeanne expressed on behalf of the ladies in the CLGA and Women's Travel Team,a huge thank you to Brett,Pete and all of the staff at both courses for being very accommodating and supportive of the organization. Purple Sage will host the final Travel Team event of the season on October 11[11 which includes golf and a luncheon. Sue Kushlan reported that there is $600 in the tree fund currently. The trees planted so far are adding beauty and character to the course. Later in the Spring, Ken will look at potential to plant additional trees. • Risport on Men's Association: No report at this meeting. Junior Golf Report: No report.
