Caldwell Youth Master Plan Committee Meeting
Meeting Minutes, August 27, 2019
Present: Ron Bonneau, Angie Point, Debbie Geyer, Carol Mitchell, Michael Fonseca (YMCA),
Denise Milburn, Julie Yamamoto (Assistance League of Boise)
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Ron motioned/Mike seconded the motion to approve the minutes from the meeting on June 25,
2019. Motion passed.
NEW BUSINESS
1. "Gone to Do Good" High School Financial Literacy: Debbie Geyer:
• Debbie heard from Todd Christianson of CapEd about planning for a Treasure Valley-
wide Financial Reality Fair at all area high schools on the same day— currently
scheduled for April 14, 2020.
• CapEd will need volunteers for three-hour time blocks. YMPC members are asked to
help recruit volunteers and help with media/getting the word out for the event.
• Link to website: www.caped.com. The website has extensive financial education
resources.
2. Community Youth and Family Organizations:
• Julie Yamamoto: Canyon County Branch of the Assistance League of Boise:
o The Canyon County Branch was able to serve 33 students through helping them
shop for school clothing and shoes. In addition, the branch received funding for
personal care items for 60 students.
o Twelve Baby Bundles were delivered to St. Luke's hospital in Nampa on August
27tH Other hospitals will receive bundles as they become available.
o After receiving word that Birch Elementary had 10 students in need of school
supplies, emails went out, and an outpouring of supplies came in.
• Mike Fonsecu: YMCA:
o New "Rock Steady" boxing program for those with Parkinson's. Will begin
sometime in September.
• Improves balance and mobility.
• Allows them to become more functional within the disease.
o Fresh Face (free haircuts) program, Back to School Bash (complete with
backpacks full of school supplies), and Rodeo Roundup all very successful over
the last month.
• Denise Milburn: Caldwell Recreation: Work on the Municipal pool is scheduled for this
winter. The Special Olympics organizers have asked if they can do their swimming
events at the pool on June 6, 2002. Denise is looking into ways to also get the
community involved.
