Staff Reports:
Golf Professional Brett Williams reported that course revenue was up so far in June over last year and has
already made up for May which was down related to poor weather. As an example, the revenue for Father's
Day was up nearly five times related to having open tee times that were full from 6:30 AM-3:00 PM. Brett
also reported that 2 additional corporate golf events have been added for this year. Each will be held on a
Friday—one coming up shortly and the other in September. That brings the total up to 17 for this year. The
Mayor's golf tournament and scholarship event was very successful—players have been sharing very high
praise for the excellent course conditions. The 2-Man and 2-Lady's BB tournaments are coming right up as
well. The Jr. golf programs continue to do very well with Pete's leadership. The First Tee program had 20
kids participating from the Middleton and Caldwell areas. The focus with the First Tee program is much
beyond golf and includes etiquette, attributes for success, and other pertinent tools to help the kids succeed.
The PGA Jr. program also had its first event this past Thursday. Finally, the combination of more open tee
times on the weekends, excellent course conditions and word of mouth, the financial outlook for the course is
quite positive.
Golf Professional Roger Garner reported that he just completed two sessions of junior golf lessons for 30
kids (25 charged). This was very successful and he will consider another round in July. The lessons are for
one week with about one hour per day. He also reported that the Caldwell Juniors started at the beginning of
the month and there are 77 junior golfers participating. This is terrific progress over the past couple of years.
There is also a PGA Juniors team from Fairview and they have won their first two matches so far. Roger
further reported the Orphan Annie's has agreed to sponsor the score cards again this year and will purchase
them. Golf course conditions are also excellent at Fairview, so thanks to Ken and his crew. Roger did note
that there was an apparent attempt to break into the shop, but not successful and repairs should be completed
later this week. Father's Day was also very successful at Fairview. The challenge was not having enough carts
for rent to meet the demand. Finally, Roger noted that there are a couple of events at Fairview yet this
month. The CMGA will host a Fun Night and there will be a Couple's Chapman event too.
Superintendent: Ken Wheeler reported that the most pressing issue remains labor. They are attempting to
fill in the gaps in every possible way. Also, Ken reported on two break-ins at the cart sheds in successive
nights this week. The only identified theft was four sets of golf clubs. No apparent damage to carts of other
items stolen. The city will be working on preparing a lease agreement to help patrons understand that they
are responsible for their personal items left in the sheds including golf clubs. Again, the board expressed
positive feedback to Ken and the crew for the excellent course conditions. There have been several express
this positive feedback. Green Aeration dates are July 30-31 at Purple Sage and August 11 at Fairview.
Report on Men's Association: No report at this meeting.
Report on Women's Association: No report this meeting.
City of Caldwell Report: Chuck Stadick of the city council reported that they were in budget meetings last night.
All signs were positive and trends show remarkable improvement. He expressed appreciation to Ken and the
professionals for the excellent work and positive outcomes so far.
Carol Mitchell reported that as of most recent reports, the cash-flow has been positive and in the black. This was
at the end of April's numbers. She further reported that Fairview has made significant progress in operations over
past couple of years. At this point, there are no planned increases in green fees. Brett noted that he is proposing
to add a weekday twilight rate of$15 after 2:00 PM. This season there has been a twilight rate of$18 on
weekends and it has been quite popular. Feedback on the restricted pass has been minimal. Those that
purchased understood the reasons to do so. Two expressed that they were concerned about weekend
tournaments taking the morning times. Brett noted that there have been two tournaments on weekend
mornings, but he is very careful to schedule those in the afternoons. The feedback on having tee times available
on weekend mornings has been significant and very much appreciated. Finally, the expected plan for the café
area is to scale back and focus more on beverages and simple food items. There was not any financial benefit
noted with offering more entrée type meals.
Junior Golf Report: Pam Wagoner reported that there are 12 kids with passes at Purple Sage and they have done
very well. The Caldwell Junior program is doing terrific as previously reported. 77 participants currently with the
majority from Middleton. The cost is minimal and essentially paid back in meals and tee prizes. The courses have
been quite accommodating. They especially appreciate Roger's support at Fairview. Will begin now advertising
for the Elk's Junior tournament set in July. Finally, will look into participating in the Youth on Course program.
