Ron: Welcome Ridgevue High School students: how has the forum impacted your
school, and what have you taken away from the Forum this past year?
Aihslee: CYF was a very positive experience influencing opportunities for
positive action outside of the classroom. She was especially moved by the TED
Talks video as this highlighted the challenges that others experience each day.
She also identified that the social climate on campus was not great— bullying,
though shared thoughtful insight that the campus culture has not yet had the
opportunity to develop at this time due to the recent opening of the school.
Paulina: CYF was a positive experience with special emphasis coming from the
group sessions at lunch and final wrap up. The TED Talks video highlighted an
awareness of students who might have extraordinary challenges and how we
might be more accepting of our differences. Additionally, the shared experiences
that came from interactions with the whole group identified common challenges
and similarities that all students experience. Recommend a mix of students from
club leadership roles to help initiate programming upon return to campus.
Bukky: CYF provides an opportunity for shared experiences and a renewed
acceptance for others and the differences all have. The "It's on Us" video
highlighted the power of peer to peer leadership and that each of us need to take
responsibility for our community. She identified the need for follow up
programming with an emphasis on leadership training/development upon return
to their home campus. CYF introduces several important initiatives but follows
with limited resource tools on how to implement them in an effective manner.
There is a need to demonstrate how to mobilize these ideas into action, perhaps
through passive leadership style management.
Josh W. will research leadership online videos for potential viewing at this year's CYF to
help model leadership skills for positive guidance and resource utilization.
Reviewed "It's on Us" video for potential sharing with Caldwell City Council at a future
date.
Meeting adjourned at 11:15 am. Next meeting is on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Caldwell
YMCA
Respectfully submitted,
Ron Bonneau
