Chairman Phil Fouts called the meeting to order at 12:06 pm.
1. Minutes of February 2018 Airport Commission Meeting
Motion was made and seconded to accept the February 2018 Minutes. Motion passed.
2. Airport Improvement Program —Toby Epler
Toby Epler reported that FAA funding is now available, and the runway project, AIP-30
is currently out to bid. The bids will be opened the end of April, and construction should
occur the end of this summer.
3. Lateral (Canal) Relocation Update— Brent Orton
Brent Orton was unable to attend this meeting, and Rob Oates had nothing new to
report at this time.
4. Building Standards Review— Rob Oates
Rob Oates has spoken with the City's airport attorney, Aaron Seable, regarding the
draft of the building standards document that was discussed at the last Commission
meeting. Aaron suggested an addition be made to the lease document, referencing the
current building standard document. Discussion ensued. It was agreed that the draft
will be revisited at the May meeting for further scrutiny before presenting it as a final
recommendation.
5. Buildable Lots Update— Rob Oates
Rob reported that a new lease has been requested for land to build a new hangar at
5515 Aviation Way, #944. Land at 507 Dishman has also been leased for a new hangar
as well.
6. Announcements— Rob Oates
• City ordinance is currently being framed to address abandoned and derelict
aircraft in our tie down area.
• City Council has approved funds to fill cracks on Taxiway C and various other
areas on the airport, excepting the Runway and Taxiway A, which will be
addressed in the upcoming AIP project.
• Dean Dishman passed away April 1, 2018. Dean was largely responsible for the
Caldwell Airport at its present location. His funeral is April 6, 2018 at 10 am at
Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Caldwell.
• Two separate vehicular accidents have recently occurred involving the airport
perimeter fencing.
• Recent unpleasant gate incidents highlight the need for increased courtesy to
fellow airport users and following airport rules for one-car-at-a-time entry.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:15 pm.
