Friends of the Caldwell Train Depot Meeting
September 7, 2017
PRESENT:
Jerry Langan, Margaret Langan, Dave Wilson, Marvin Dennis, Debbie Geyer, and Mark Pemble.
Margaret Langan called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. at the Model Railroad Club building located at
809 Dearborn Street. Dave Wilson of the Model Railroad Club welcomed those in attendance to the club
facility and indicated that he would provide a tour of the building at the conclusion of the business
meeting.

MINUTES:
MOVED by Jerry Langan, SECONDED by Dave Wilson to approve the minutes of March 9, 2017 with the
correction of removing Marvin Dennis' name from the minutes since he did not attend.

FINANCE REPORT: •
Debbie Geyer presented the financial report noting the current balance of$7,577.09.
MOVED to Jerry Langan, SECONDED by Dave Wilson to approve the financial report as presented.

REPORTS:
Margaret Langan provided a report on the open house monthly events for April-August at the train depot
noting that the attendance has been outstanding when an open house event was teamed with other
events at the site. The craft fair in May and art show in June were all well attended. Dave Wilson
reported that the Sunnyslope Wine Festival brought approximately 300 persons to the depot plaza on
August 4th
It was noted that the Caldwell Model Railroad Club would be providing coverage at the train depot with
their displays and the hosting of the Interpretive Center for the Indian Creek Festival on Saturday,
September 16, 2017 from 9:00 a.m.to 4:00 p.m.
Jerry Langan updated the group on the presentation made to the City Council on March 20, 2017. The
report was well received by City Council.
Margaret Langan reported on the success of the Spring Clean Day held at the depot on April 29, 2017.
She expressed her appreciation to all who participated including the local Boy Scout troop who
volunteered to clean the depot windows that day.

NEW BUSINESS:
(Upcoming Autumn Clean Day at the Train Depot)
In preparation for the upcoming Winter Wonderland event, it was determined that another depot clean-
up day would be scheduled and publicized to the members.
DATE: Saturday, October 28, at 11:00 a.m.
Everyone should bring cleaning supplies and outdoor lawn equipment such as rakes, brooms, and
shovels.

Discussion held concerning the upcoming plans for the Night of History event:

Speaker: Bob Sobba
Location: TVCC Lecture Hall
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Topic: "The Dynamiters"(The Steunenberg Assassination)
It was confirmed that a newspaper ad will be placed in the Idaho Press Tribune (Debbie to contact IPT)
not to exceed$300 and a restaurant gift certificate in the amount of$50 will be given to Bob Sobba as the
speaker.

Debbie will contact TVCC to confirm that the lecture hall is still available as the designated location.
(Purchase of Model Railroad Locomotive)
Dave Wilson reported that he located a rebuilt locomotive for the model railroad display in the Depot
Interpretive Center. He will submit the receipt to City Hall for reimbursement of$100.00.
(Update Report: Required changes to the parking lot and landing area)
Due to requirements stipulated by the Union Pacific Railroad Company, the fencing at the railroad track
within the depot parking lots must be relocated by the City of Caldwell to comply with safety issues.
Debbie provided a report on the status of the project.
(Christmas Gathering—December 14th at the Caldwell Train Depot)
Discussion was held about hosting a Christmas Gathering at the next scheduled quarterly meeting on
December 14, 2017. It was suggested that invitations be extended to all of the Friends of the Depot
members, members of AARP (Jerry & Margaret Langan - contact), Caldwell Concerned Citizens (Mike
Pollard - contact), and the Caldwell Model Railroad Club (Dave Wilson — contact) for their involvement
with various events and hosting the open house functions at the train depot throughout the year.

Spouses and guests are welcome to attend.
Dave Wilson will check with the members of the Caldwell Railroad Club concerning this invitation.
(Possible Friends of the Depot Outing)
It was suggested that an outing be organized to view the Canyon Crossroads Museum located at
Celebration Park near Melba. "Ready Made for Transportation" art objects will be on display at the
museum from September 23, 2017—January 31, 2018.
A Saturday would be selected and information distributed to the members for their interest to participate.
A car pool could be organized for ease of travel.
