Toni moved/Laurie seconded the motion to accept the minutes from the meeting on July 18, 2017. Motion passed. Ron opened the meeting by asking for feedback from schools regarding the Forum on September 13th. Questions to consider: • Is the message still the right one? • Is there enough time to deliver that message? • Are the current video choices still effective? • Is there a way to make it more personal? Several school representatives commented that the breakout sessions near the end of the day were not long enough. There were some unexpected slow-downs in the progress of the afternoon that contributed. Perhaps make this time longer. Other comments: • Theme appears to still be relevant—still addressing a concern within the school culture. Acceptance seems to be the key. • C of I video (It's On Us) is now almost 3 years old. Possible substitute? Perhaps a slideshow with pictures from the previous year's Forum and each school's action project? • Bukki did a fantastic job of introducing students to what was coming, and encouraging them the whole way. Tony and the other students who had been to the previous year's Forum were a great help in getting the ball rolling during morning and afternoon activities. • May want to look at other video options – maybe take the It's On Us theme to look at a different concern – perhaps cyber-bullying, or a related topic. • An extra table for registration would streamline the initial crush when everyone gets there at once. • Circumstances necessitated moving afternoon activities to Jewett Auditorium after the video session in Langroise. Should we stay in Jewett for the full afternoon sessions? Could cut the time necessary to move from Langroise to Jewett, and maybe add that saved time to the breakout sessions. • Laurie commented that the RHS students were both moved and motivated by the day's activities. They immediately started a club and began working on ideas for a school project. They were especially impacted by the lunch speaker (Tara). • Brandy shared that though her students were uncomfortable at first, they settled in quickly and Playfair was definitely a highlight. They also thought the entire day's message was beneficial. • Brooke reported that the CHS students felt more connected as the day went on, and wishing more students had been able to participate. Students also a little intimidated over taking a message to the entire school, but the ideas coming out of the meetings are big and very doable. Want to have a different club sponsor kindness week activities each week. • Kelly said the VHS students were energized by the activities throughout the day, and he also saw a benefit to having a few returning students. Momentum is continuing, and the group is planning a meeting next Monday. Quite a bit of discussion occurred about whether the timing of the Forum needs to change. It appears that there is no 'best' time for the Forum, so the group is considering September 11, 2018 as a possible date for the next Youth Forum. This discussion will likely continue at the next meeting. Josh motioned/Toni seconded to adjourn the meeting at 11:12 am. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 10:00 am at Vallivue High School, 1407 E. Homedale Rd in Caldwell. . Respectfully submitted, Angie Point
