Coordinator's Report:
> Meal costs are down. Which is great!
> The Senior Center Manual is still in progress. Donna has not been able to
get it done since she has had time limitations. Since the last board
meeting, 19 days ago, she has spent 9 of those days in the kitchen and she
took 2 days of personal leave off.
➢ Tax-Aide continues with one more Wednesday to go.
➢ Volunteers stuffed 4,000 Easter eggs last week for the City.
> Ice machine was repaired.
> Shannon took the Health Department Certified Pro Food Mgr class last
Tuesday.
> Shawna was scheduled for the Health Department class for Wednesday
April 19th, but the class was delayed until May. She will be leaving at
11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 21st for a medical appointment.
> The Fire Marshall called regarding a complaint that the door to the pool
room was locked. Donna explained the situation to him.
> The Senior Center has been rented for Saturday, April 29th for a party.
Donna will be out of town that day and requested that someone be
available to open and close the center that day for her. Sharon indicated
that she would make sure that was taken care of. There is another rental
scheduled for June.
> The Wall of Honor is being put together on the back wall of the dining
room. Service plaques will be ordered. It is coming together real well.
> Donna is still planning on having an indoor yard sale at the Center.
Old Business:
> The locks for the front door and the office were changed.
> The computer lab ink was purchased and it was a real good deal!
> Donna and Angie have been updating the website.
> The electrician from the City was here taking care of tasks that needed to
be done, including installing a serge protector.
> There is a hole on the outside of the building. Probably done when
scooping snow off the roof. Vin has been contacted about this.
> The graffiti was painted over. They did a good job.
> We have not received anything from the Idaho Human Rights
Commission regarding the complaint from the former employee. It may
be this fall before we hear anything.
New Business:
> The window covering in the pool room is cracked and falling down. The
window tinting on the office window is cracked and pealing off. In the
summer the sun shines directly into the office window and it gets very hot
in there. New blinds or tinting are needed for these windows. A
possibility is walling off the bottom half of the office window. A
volunteer in construction could be utilized to do this. Then only half of
the window covering would need to be replaced. These are options that
need to be looked into.
• Motion to have Donna look into the options for these windows and
report back with her findings. Michelle Approved, Mary Seconded.
Passed.
> Question about the Yoga class. Donna let them know we would like to
post a sign-up sheet to see if there is any interest in the class, but she
hasn't heard back from them. She will contact them again.
➢ Mary let us know that Mae has retired from the store at the Center. She
will post the opening to see if anyone is interested.
> The Senior Center has had Tax-Aide assisting people with their taxes for
years. On Tax Day Wednesdays, Donna comes into the Center at 6 or
6:30 a.m. and there are as many as 20 people waiting at the door. Many of
these people are young with children and very few seniors. The Office
phone rings a lot with questions about taxes. Tax-Aide starts at 9:00 a.m.
and the doors open at 8:00 a.m. since this is when the Center normally
opens. When these people barge in the door they have been rude, messy,
irate, demanding and loud to name a few. They also take up parking
spaces which our seniors have become used to using. Some seniors will
leave if our parking lot is full. Is it possible that Tax-Aide could be
moved to a better and bigger location with ample parking? The Train
Depot and the County Admin. Building conference room was suggested.
It was also suggested that Tax-Aide needs to make appointments in
advance and not schedule them on the same day that we are open for
them. AARP may need to make a few changes as well. Let's keep these
things on the back burner and in the mean time check into some of these
for next year's tax season.
> Gerald suggested that the Center needs to have an audit. He will look into
the cost for this and get back to us with his findings.
➢ It was suggested that we purchase items listed on the Nutrition Flyers and
sell them at the Center or have them on the food line. Most of these items
like the Cara Cara Oranges are very expensive and not available at all
stores. We would like to have them available to all. It was decided to just
make them available occasionally on the food line.
Motion to adjourn the meeting: Mike Approved, Billy Seconded. Passed.
Meeting adjourned at 2:00 pm.
