Meeting Minutes 11-16-2015
Present: Ashley Doser, Angie Point, Josh Williamson,Ron Bonneau
Meeting called to order at 3:07 pm. Ron motioned/Angie seconded to approve minutes from 9/21/2015
subcommittee meeting.
Ron began the meeting by asking Ashley if the students from Vallivue who attended the Forum have
begun implementation of any action points discussed by the students during the Forum. Ashley reported
that she has not seen anything yet that seems directly related to the Youth Forum action items.
After discussion about finding a student representative from the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council
(MYAC) that attends CHS, the committee decided that the main issue is finding out what input the
youth have—the specific questions this month is: "What 2 things at your school would you like to see
change?"
With the difficulty of fmding a time that students can come to the sub-committee meetings, we decided
to reverse the way we ask for input. Instead of asking students to come to our meetings, we will send a
representative of the subcommittee to select MYAC meetings and request input to specific questions that
will help us tailor the Forum to students' perceived needs.
Ron volunteered to ask the MYAC for responses to the "what 2 things . . ." question above, and if Gem
State and Thomas Jefferson High students might like to be included in next year's Forum. He will bring
back responses to January's meeting. Any new issues that need to be addressed with youth will be
identified at the January meeting and Angie will take them to the next MYAC meeting. Josh
volunteered to be available for a March MYAC meeting if needed. Other questions discussed involved
defining `community', and how to address 'clique-ish-ness' in a way that is more inclusive and less
exclusive.
There has also been difficulty with subcommittee members attending our meetings, as the time conflicts
with many other group meetings. We are proposing, therefore, to change our meeting times to loam on
the third Monday of each month that subcommittees meet: January, March, May, July, 2 meetings and
the Youth Forum in September, and November. Attached is a proposed schedule for 2016. When there
is a school holiday on the third Monday,the meeting will occur on the following Tuesday.
Josh is still following up on ballpark numbers for costs to hold an overnight wilderness Forum in the
future. He will bring back numbers to our next subcommittee meeting.
Angie motioned/Josh seconded to adjourn at 3:52pm. Next meeting is tentatively scheduled for
Tuesday, January 19th at 10 am in the YMCA meeting room.
