Caldwell Meeting Minutes "�Y eeds Dec 8, 2015/Southwest District Health Attendees: Mark Barbieri,Julisa Florez, Carol Julius, Alex Hackett,Shelly Gardner, Synaida Cortez,Angie Point, Claudia Suastegui, Royce Wright, Denise Milburn, Marisa Erickson Agenda Items Discussion &Decisions Action Items Deadline Introductions Welcome WICAP Headstart representatives (Mark,Julisa,Shelly,and Synaida) and Denise Milburn (new parks &rec supervisor) Goal 1 Let's Move! Childcare workshop will be held at SWDH on March 5 and ALL- Please shared Before March 5 April 2. The Canyon Bike Project has some bikes ready for distribution. Other Updates Let's Move!Snowflake Shuffle was a new event put on by the College of Idaho Kinesiology students. It kept kids at the Winter Wonderland moving and was a lot of fun. Compass is a non-profit that works with communities to increase walking and biking. Alex works with them. They provide help with data collection, mapping, and possibly funding resources. Angie noted that the city just passed a resolution to purchase some pedestrian and bike counters! Alex shared some of the data he's been collecting at schools with the help of Compass. Step It Up! is the Surgeon General's new call to action to increase walking in America. The Mayor's Walking Challenge ended in October. 4 Caldwell schools participated. L&C,Sacajawea, Lincoln, and Heritage Community Charter. Our first year as a Let's Movel city is coming to a close so we shared a brief annual report of our highlights. Funding Applications for 2 funding opportunities were submitted in November - Every Body! and the Blue Cross Foundation. We received word last week that we were not funded for the Every Body! Grant. Some of our 2016 plans are contingent on funding so we will wait and see on our second application. Expect results the first of January. 2 2016 Meeting Shared calendar of 2016 meeting dates. Age 7 and up can be on the health and fitness floor with their parents. Alex—Safe Routes to School. Considering a poster contest and a Polar Bear walk this winter at schools. Will continue to participate in the Caldwell Bikes and Pathways group. Royce—OASIS. They have 60 sites where they provide summer lunch. They also prepare 125 backpacks to ensure students have food over the weekend. He works with the school counselors on this project. Denise—Parks & Rec. Still not fully staffed, but should be soon. They are already working with Chuck Randolph on historic walking tours. Their new sports director in an avid runner. Carol-SWDH. Possibility of pathways becoming smoke free zones and fit and fall opportunities for seniors here in Caldwell. Synaida—WICAP. Reminds group of importance of including materials in Spanish. 3
