HomeMy WebLinkAbout1978-04-17 Beautication Caldwell Community Development Commission (CCDC) Regular Meetingi Council Chambers April 17, 1978 - 12 Noon Present: Members: Bell, Macy, Rankin, Roelofs, Wallace Ex Officio: Bauman, Morse, Payne Guests : Renk, Horan Chairman Rankin called the meeting to order at 12:10. Minutes. The minutes of the February meeting were approved with one notation. Rose Garden. Payne announced that the high school is ready to paint the rose garden wall. The city will furnish the paint. Indian Creek. It was also announced by Payne that the Indian Creek project is progressing well but there is a temporary halt while waiting for Pioneer Irrigation drag line. Arboretum. After Bell said that she had not been able to get in touch with the schools about the arboretum project Bauman announced that she has been working with them and has visited the site, It is to be a learning center for the schools and appears to be under way as a project. It was suggested that this commission need not be involved any more. Quiet Park. Rankin has talked with Helen Ulmea of the Forward Club which is still willing to support the quiet park project. Morse suggested that a request should be made to the city council to designate this area park property. Payne will visit with the club about what the club might do for the park and what they can expect as far as usage of the park is concerned. Depotroject. There was no specific information forthcoming about the depot project. Don Horan visited with the commission about his request for an eight thousand dollar grant under Urban Development programs -- HUD based on lack of growth. This is separate from a request for a community development grant. There followed a general discussion about a pedestrian mall and other ways of revitalizing the core area of Caldwell. The receipt of a grant would help fund the depot project. Bike paths. Roelofs reported that the North Illinois pathway has been cleaned regularly but no change has been observed in the lining on tenth. Commendations. Macy withdrew her nomination for the commendation made in February. College of Idaho. Rankin told the group that Phil Eldredge had asked for a suggestion of someone to consult with about planting on the collegets curbs on Cleveland. Rankin referred Eldredge to Jess Payne. Page 2 A w Development Block Grant. Rankin told the commission that Jack Raymond had asked the CCDC to write up a recommendation encompassing suggestions brought up at the public meeting dealing with applications for a Development Block Grant. Rankin, unable to locate other members, wrote the recommendation which she read. A copy is available in Don Horan's office. Service Station. It was pointed out to the members of this commission that they should see the gasoline station on the corner of Kimball and Albany. They should also drive out to see the self help migrant housing project in the vicinity of Madison park. Rankin suggested that everyone see the Senior Citizen project on Blaine between 18th and 19th. Replacement members . Priscilla West was unanimously nominated to this commission. Her name and that of Gene Betts, with his permission, will be submitted to the city council.
