The Caldwell Commission on Historic Preservation met
Wednesday March 7 at the City Hall . Four members, council repres-
entation Marilyn Bauman and 4 guests were present . Paul B. Evans,
chairman , called the meeting to order. The minutes were read and
corrected.
Expanding the membership to the maximum of 10 members was
dicussed . Three individuals with qualifying backgrounds have signified
a desire to serve . The Commission voted to submit the names to the
city council . An attorney is also being approached.
The following itemswere discussed :
Mr Cassel of the College of Idaho has been contacted in
regard to the old Cof I building. Presently-not interested. The
building can be reassembled on a new sight if enough interest.
Louis Attebury will work lentilt the alumnae information and perhaps
there will be some alumnae response .
Kathryn Stewart has purchased 904 Belmont (Baker House )
and plans to restore it.
Edward Perry, 703 Belmont, has been working to restore for
It years .
Elizabeth Sullivan will write to various agencies--request-
ing material for our library file . Said file will probably be
housed in the Caldwell Library and be available to the public.
Jenifer Attebury, a guest, who is working for the state
or nominations for the National ReTister wants individual nominations.
The area sh is covering now is downtown Caldwell--Main St. between
6th and 9th and some of Arthur St.
Evans and Thurston will talk to Wally Frank in regard to
Historic Register and the tax shelter benefits for 1204 Cleveland.
Julie Hyslop of the Owyhee County Historical Society spoke-
sharing her knowledge and experience . The fb1lowing points were noted :
1 . Establish a library file of basic information
2 . Keep and update an active inventory of possible
qualifying buildings
3 . Read the libtary material so the commission
knowIF the options available
4. Plan our course of action
The meeting was adjourned.
