MORSE DIRECTOR pA idhi & RECREATION COMM SSION MEETING Aug. 3, 1979 P&R OFFICE - CALDWELL, IDAHO The August 3th meeting was called to order by Chairperson Dee Palrang at 12:15pm in the Parks & Recreation Office. LeAnn Simmons Jack Raymond (City Council) Minutes from the July ?rad meeting were read with the following corrections being made, Strike the sentences begini.ng with "Legion 0" and "No Softball" and in their places add that there will be unrestricted community use of Luby field. The minutes were approved as corrected. PARKS REPORT - Jack Raymond The Wilson Park projeet As "everything go" with a request still in for a $4,000.00 fir; grant. Rome of the items on the project list to be completed are: restrooms, tennis courts, tot lot, fencing, tile drain ditch, skin the infield on baseball diancnd (1) , soccer field, and low maintenance landscaping. Dee Palrang asked about any recommendations t.owl rd long range planning. Jack said that it is something we should continue to look at, but timing would be bad for now on requesting grants for long range park planning. BUDGET UPDA'PE (RECREATION) - Ken Hopper & John Pegu^.tte Ken reported the recreation budget Is looking very healthy with a $32,000.00 c:r:.lt lir l:rnee on hand :+ I I ho end e l July. John also reported that Bill Jordan keeps fi gores on cost of all equipment at the pool. SOF'T'BALL REPORT - Lynn Crossett Girls Softballs Lynn reported that 45 - 50 girls were involved in the program. According to Lynn the program could have been a lot more successful than it was and gave some pointers for next year 1). to start the program earlier 2). limit to 9 thru 15 year olds 3) . to get the city to cooperate with a girls program; involve parents; or drop the program completely. Adult Softball: With approximately 600 people involved in the program, Lynn found that adult softball went relatively very well. She was asked to suggest that a Light be put in behind home plate at the Armory field. SWIM TEAM REPORT - Joe Frost Joe reported he had 37 returning swimmers with 29 swimmers remaining thru the season. Prom the noon group of beginning swimmers interested in swim team four moved up. As far as swim meets - the kids will see 10 meets which includes State. Twelve beginners went to the "C" meet - 16 ::wi.mmers qualified, A Saturday meet will be run for Namr'a, Payette & Caldwell swimmers who did not go to any of the qualifying mets. Suggestions for next year ere to advertise for swimming ahead of the season. Comment was made to sell season passes as Christmas gifts. RECREATION REPORT - John Jequet.t.e John reported that he will make a report of the 1170 Summer Recreation Programs on a dictation recorder and this will then be typed and put on file for next years recreation director. These recommendations will then go before the Caldwell City Council for approval. Sandra Doo, Dave Gipson and LeAnn Simmons volunt.n, red to work with Rano. TENNIS REPORT _ Gene Hem'nwray Gene reported Marcie Koontz and Dave Spencer did a very fine job with their program. They had 36 kids 12 yrs. old and under, 12 juniors and approximately 56 ladies (4 sessions with 14 ladies/session) . The City-Wide Tennis Tournament, turned out to be a success. ` OTHER BUSINESS: Concerning the "Budget" - two items were left off that should be included _ Discussion followed pertaining to a thermal energy heated indoor-outdoor 50 meter pool with 8 to 10 lanes. Joe Frost was asked to look into the possibility of getting a geothermal grant. MEETING ADJOURNED. pm pm
