Business :
Bobbie Rankin from the Beautification Commission reported on the
progress of the Bike Path along the Dixie Drain Ditch and a planned
meeting with the Caldwell. School Board to discuss the drain ditch area
along the High School. She also reported they have received a letter
from the Federal government on the easements of properties along
Linden and Ash. The Federal government owns the easements and has
given permission to the Beautification Commission to go ahead with plans.
Jack Raymond stated he personally felt there was still more to discuss
and more to be looked into concerning the Bike Path.
In the interest of the declining population of elm trees, Bobbie Rankin
stated that a county agent has supplied a list of pertinent information
regarding trees for citizens interested in replacing elms that have
been removed.
Art Collins gave a report of his meeting with Dan Yancey. There was
discussion and the Commission members agreed with the Gymnastics Club
Parents representative that there is a need and a high community in-
terest for gymnastics, that a program should be looked into for the
immediate future for girls and possibly later a boys program. That the
most pertinent problem is a facility, and that it would be a self-
sustaining activity through registration fees. Various school
facilities were discussed along with the Old Jefferson Jr. High School.
Hal Denson recommended that Art Collins start setting up a summer
program for girls gymnastics and start working on the feasibility for
winter gymnastics for next year. George Tavares suggested we run the
summer program, evaluate it, and try to work out something with the
School District for the winter. He further recommended a meeting be
set up with Mr. Darrell Deide, School Superintendent, showing him the
demand for the facility and hopefully working out an agreement. He
eiN stated that he would meet with Mr. Deide concerning this matter.
