I currently own a licensed facility in Caldwell but due to the growth of the city would like to expand to be able to offer quality care to more families. I currently turn away an average of 6 people per week who are looking for care. As you may have seen in an article done by the Idaho Press Tribune our city is hurting for quality childcare. We are one of the fastest growing areas but the growth of childcare has not kept up. This facility would offer a small dent in the current need that I see everyday. I have spent 6 months looking for property on which to build. I am very particular when it comes to safety both inside and outside of my facility. The benefit of this property is that it is located on a cul-de-sac. There is no real drive by traffic. The traffic on this street will be minimal and will be traveling at a low speed. Even though this area is platted as light industrial and there is a terminal yard for a trucking company in the area, because of the low speed and the extensive safety precautions I am taking I feel that this is still a safer place for a center than in a residential or commercial area that would have a higher traffic flow. My peak traffic time will be before any of the other businesses in the area open or after they close. I have designed the parking lot to manage our traffic flow in an easy manner. There will be ingress and an egress with parking provided for parents and employees as well as an on site area for drop off and pick up of the children. The entire playground will be in the back of the facility and will be surrounded by a 6-foot privacy fence. There will be a separate fenced area for children ages 1-4 and ages 5-10. There will be an area of grass only on one side of the building behind our employee parking for teachers to utilize during class time if they choose. Our hours of operation are from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. but none of our outdoor activities begin until 8:30 a.m. All of my outside doors that children have access to will be located inside of the fenced area. Our door into the building will be opened using codes that parents have. Our door back out of the front will actually be a double door system with an alarm that will sound each time the first door is opened. This allows us to be sure of who is going out. The building is 3500 sq. feet and will license for a maximum of 100 children. The design is such that all of the classroom doors open into a main area. This allows us to see each room, the front door into the facility and the front door out of the facility. The playground is designed to have no hidden areas. The fence keeps all of the children behind the back edge of the building at playtime. This allows us safety from a situation that was on the news recently where a man drove his car into the playground of a daycare. There is no way of protecting our children from unseen dangers but as you can see I have done everything possible to provide them a safe, loving and fun environment for the time they have to be away from their parents. If we are given approval we hope to begin construction by August 1 `.
