Present: Debbie Geyer, Marisa Erickson, Ron Bonneau, Holly Cook, Donna Shines, Josh Williamson, Anita `Nilson, Marci Oakes, Angie Point. Donna Shines made/Anita Wilson seconded a motion to approve minutes from the 2/24/2015 meeting as amended (see attached). Motion passed. Sue Marostica from the Gold Buckle Champion organization was scheduled to make a presentation, but was unable to attend. Rescheduled for next meeting. Old Business: Committee Reports: 1. Youth Forum 2015 - Ron Bonneau. a. Confirmed date for the Forum is Wednesday September 16, 2015. The College of Idaho Homecoming is on the Friday of this same week, so there was some concern that meeting rooms may change at the last minute due to preparation activities for Homecoming, but we will be flexible as needed. Backup plan will include utilizing the YMCA and Caldwell High School if needed. b. Dr. William Black of Family Eyecare Specialists has again donated $250 toward this year's Forum. The 2015 Forum is now fully funded! c. Several ideas were discussed about how to incorporate the ISLD grant requirements while keeping the focus on addressing bystander issues. The committee is looking into utilizing a student story (possibly a C of I student willing to share a story of underage drinking/consequences/what could have been done differently for positive outcome) to empower Forum students to utilize the tools they are learning and apply them to real situations. d. Scott Herdegren will provide a short `transition' element right before lunch in order to quickly move the focus from the morning community-building activities to what will happen after lunch. This is intended to give students a clearer picture of the main focus of the day, and to help them be ready for the specific interactions/discussions that will follow. e. Anita Wilson will hold an in-school meeting with past Forum students to get input needed to evaluate specifics of which video to use, etc. Since student representatives have been unable to attend the meetings, Ron and Josh Williamson will also ask to attend the next Mayor's Youth Advisory meeting as another avenue for student input. f. T-shirt design changes recommended: Add a line under "Not Just a Bystander" to emphasize positive action: "Stand Up, Speak out, Bring the Change". We are also looking at white lettering on a black shirt (maybe white lettering with a color as emphasis). We will get Scott Herdegren's input on Vallivue's policy for students wearing black shirts. g. Holly made up a quick idea for a Youth Forum logo: hands reaching for stars with "The Caldwell Youth Forum" ribbon below it, then "A project of the Youth Master Plan" at the bottom. All liked the idea, and it will be fine-tuned and presented at the next Youth Forum meeting for discussion/approval. t r 2. Let's Move! Caldwell - Marisa Erickson. a. Many Kudos to Collette Sanders for everything she was able to accomplish in order to set up the Let's Move Community Day on April 18th! Those that came enjoyed the activities, and for a first-year event, attendance was good. A few commented that they wished the events were centered on a few parks closer together. However, since one of the goals was to showcase our city parks, the discussion centered around how to make it easier to find the parks, and ways to encourage participants to visit as many activities/parks as they could. b. Suggestions for next year: 1. A Scavenger Hunt with specific items at specific parks 2. Signage in each participating park identifying where to gather for specific activities (especially Nature Hike and Bike Ride type activities) 3. In addition to the PDF formats for advertising, also create maps and posters in .JPEG file format so they are easy to add to Facebook, Instagram, and some of the other advertising. 4. Include the Vallivue schools in distribution of flyers about the event c. Marisa also talked to Amy Stahl (Boise Parks &. Recreation and co-chair of Let's Move! Boise. Discussion centered around ideas on funding, activities, and advertising. More later. 3. Canyon Bike Project - Jim Porter and juvenile justice are hoping to team up in an effort similar to Boise's Bike Project: repair, rejuvenate, and give away bikes to those that need them. Not ready for launch yet; more information should be available by the June meeting. 4. Caldwell Saves 1st- Holly Cook. a. Beginnings: The pilot project held their last of 4 financial education classes last week. Thirty-six families were invited by elementary school principals to attend. Twenty-one families elected to participate in a set of 4 once-a-week classes to learn about finances and banking opportunities. Childcare was provided free of charge by Potter's Clay, a campus ministries organization from the College of Idaho. Parents have now opened savings account for their kids, and the City will put $15 into the accounts when parents have completed the classes. ICCU, Albertson's, TVCC &. I Deal donated dinners each night. There is a lot of interest in this program--from the Idaho Education News team that came to do a news spot, to business and community interest, to the excitement of parents and kids who now have savings accounts --everyone thinks this is a great program for Caldwell's kids. b. Funding: As funding grows, so will the program. At some point, there may come a time when scholarships may be available for kids to use for college that will come from business and community investment. It is recommended that, if fundraising allows, an additional $1,800 from this year's annual Mayor's Community Service Scholarship Shuffle golf tournament be set aside to fund a phase II of the pilot program that will include a larger group. 5. Health&Wellness outreach Committee- Dawna Laird Dawna was not able to be at today's meeting (no doubt preparing for tomorrow's Health&. Wellness event) i New Business: Promises 9 & 10: Community Involvement P 9. Children and young 10.
