Staff Reports:
Golf Professional John Watson reported that revenue at Purple Sage is up considerably year over year.
Primary factors for the positive increase appear to be unusually mild weather this Spring and successful
results from the season pass promotion. Additionally,John reported that there is an opportunity to
advertise with the College of Idaho football schedule. The cost would be approximately$200- $350
depending on the advertisement layout. The board recommended approaching the college with the idea
of advertising over the public address system during a game with an offer of a free round of golf John
will follow up on that suggestion and report back at the next meeting. John further lead a discussion
regarding participation with Golfnow.com an online discount website that offers discounted green fees.
This website has been quite popular in other markets, but does not currently have courses in Southwest
Idaho participating. The agreement for advertising with Golfnow.com is giving them a regular tee time
in the arternoon. The board encouraged John to proceed with the website and to report back at the next
meeting. Purple Sage would be the first course in Southwest Idaho participating. Finally,John reported
that a small group requested to be able to form a weekly Bible Study at the course before playing golf.
The board was not opposed to this, but suggested that the request be reviewed by the City's legal
counsel. Jeremy Feucht agreed to present the request at the next City Council meeting and report back at
the next meeting.
Superintendent Report: Ken wheeler reported that a significant amount of time and resources
continue to be used for irrigation at Fairview Golf Course related to frequent leaks and poor drainage.
He is working with both courses to manage water usage closely to "drought-proof' them (use minimum
water to maintain playable surfaces in order to allow them to be sustained better during times of
drought). The irrigation system at Purple Sage is currently being upgraded with newer refurbished
clocks. Additionally, the tee boxes on hole #'s 12 & 17 have been reconstructed and shaped and are
being seeded. Staffing for the courses is stable with some newer individuals and seasoned workers.
Finally, aerif cation of the greens is set for Tuesday/Wednesday,April 21"&22nd at Purple Sage. The
crew will be working with a crew from Plantation Country Club to complete both courses more
efficiently. The course conditions continue to be terrific and the board expressed appreciation to Ken
and his crew for the exceptional job they are doing.
Human Resource Director Monica Jones joined the meeting to discuss a couple of issues that have
surfaced. First, the agency offices located to the right of#9 fairway at Fairview Golf Course have
experienced some damage from golf balls. This will be reviewed by the insurance carrier with further
discussion at the next meeting as indicated. Secondly, there have been reports of golf patrons that have
been hostile and verbally assaultive toward some of the work crew. The board fully agreed that this
behavior cannot be tolerated and immediate action is needed. Given that the reports indicated that this
occurred at Fairview Golf Course, Ken wheeler and Roger Garner have addressed this with patrons at
the course and will monitor for any further issues. They will report back at the next meeting. The board
supports the process of giving a verbal warning for any first offense followed by a written warning and
then further action up to and including suspension of golfing privileges. More egregious incidents would
result in immediate action taken
Information only, city officials will be meeting with the county commissioners in May regarding the
potential sale of the land located near Purple Sage Golf Course.
Report on Women's Association: No report this meeting.
Report on Men's Association: No report this meeting.
