Ron Bonneau moved to approve minutes of August 26, 2014. Anita Wilson seconded. Motion carried. Old Business In continuing to consider Goals for Health and Wellness Promise: *Parents and children will be educated on nutrition and healthy food options. I *Children and young adults will have access to healthy food, active lifestyle choices and protection against preventable diseases. 1. "Let's Move" City proposal. Marisa Erickson, S WDHD Emmett, Middleton, Boise, plus 7 others in Idaho to date have been designated "Let's Move" Cities. Primary goal is to prevent childhood obesity in 1 generation. Everyone has a part. This committee will appoint a sub-committee, to be directed by Marisa for the moment, to explore what Caldwell is already doing to meet the guidelines. Where are we, what do we need to improve, what do we need to do to move forward, how can we customize the regional logo to show Caldwell's involvement. Suggested members: Anita Wilson and Scott Herdegen (CHS and VHS representatives), a food service/nutrition(OASIS?) member, Scott Jarom (Planning and Zoning), Collette Sanders (Parks and Recreation), Mark.Davis (Caldwell Event Center), a Mayor's Youth Advisory representative, and a student from each of the two High Schools represented. There is also a regional contact person to use as a resource to help get things started, and to answer questions. The plan is to put this objective on the city council agenda for their next meeting. There must also be an elected official on the "Let's Move" board. 2. Compassion Caldwell Compassion Clinic is approximately 5 weeks away. The target is Caldwell, but no one will be turned away. Right now there are chiropractors, dentists, vision care (through the Lions Club),hair cuts, foot care, etc. Dental Hygenists are also needed. .Tim and Sharon Porter are thankful for all the community leaders, businesses, and volunteers signing up to help. Meetings are being held at Canyon Springs High School (where the clinic will be held). The need right now is still volunteers: help with registration, help with equipment set-up and tear down, bilingual help so that workers and patients can connect about needed services.Again, volunteers may sign up on-line at www.compassioncaldwell.org. Students would be a good volunteer source here. Volunteers need to be at Canyon Springs HS by Sam, and they will need volunteers until 3pm. If they cannot stay the whole day, then they should come for as much of the day as possible. 4 I 3. Dawna Laird–West Valley Medical Center is continuing plans for clinical screening services in April. WVMC will look into the possibility of teaming up with the Treasure Valley Community Resource's April community event. Dawna will report back with more specifics when they are available. Josh(YMCA)talked about a resource fair(maybe at the Y) in conjunction with 'Day of the Child' events, usually held in April. There was also discussion of looking into the possibility of a mobile clinic, using a self- contained RV to visit outlying areas in ad j acent towns to address needs close by—dental and vision screenings for children, health and safety topics/screenings for their parents. Marisa said SWDHD is beginning a partnership with the food banks to do diabetic screenings. They already go to CDSSA for the kids there. I 4. Caldwell Youth Forum: After Action Report. The Forum was a success, and many thanks to all who participated in this event. The Committee decided to create a sub-committee, headed by Ron Bonneau, to focus exclusively on the 2015 Youth Forum. Shane said there are several smaller grants that can provide the funding, and other ideas were introduced that focus more on using available technology for example, generating an on-line survey with Survey Monkey, or something similar. Also proposed was that groups already at CHS and VHS be used as a 'sounding board' for student involvement in planning for next year. Sub-committee members: Ron Bonneau as Coordinator; Shane Bauges, Ken Wein, and Donna Shines as fundraising; Julie Yamamoto and Scott Herdegen+ I student from VHS;Anita Wilson, John Brooks +1 student from CHS; Brandy Smith from CDSSA, Josh Williamson from the YMCA; Joyce Davis; and Angie Point as the City support member. The hashtag (#bthechange) that was chosen for the event turned out to be one used by "B Corp" in their community service efforts. Only I person tagged a photo taken during the 'selfie' picture time with this hashtag. It was pretty well lost in the large number of"B Corp"photos. Recommend we simply use #caldwellyouthforum next year. Most of the pictures taken at the Forum are up on the Facebook page (Caldwell Youth Forum). Committee members are welcome to post their oven photos taken that day. Angie has a few more from Liz to put up, then we are up-to-date. The College of Idaho student reporter Ashley Coles wrote an article used in their blog post that did a pretty good job of catching the intent and atmosphere of the Forum. The link to the blog post is: http:llwww.collegeofidaho.edu/blog/news/2014/09/12/c-i-hosts-caldwell-youth- forum-local-students 5. Bank-On update: Debbie is working with the Bank-On program to try and start a savings account for kids in 3rd-4th grade by providing the initial deposit. They are looking at financial supplementation options, since banks are adamant about the minimum deposit being $25. There is also discussion about combining with the "Go-On" program for promoting college attendance. If parents take the classes, their 3rd-4th grade children get a college savings account started with an initial deposit of $5 or$10 to get started. Still looking for a bank that will set up an account for that small of a deposit, or for some incentive (matching grant maybe?)to get it going. College of Idaho students,TVCC students, and other area college students are interested in the Bank-On classes. Debbie and Ken will follow up to connect Bank-On with Ron Bonneau and TVCC. There was also a discussion of the possibility of classes at Farmway Village.
