By Phone: Keri Sigman, Stephanie Rhodanze
Roger Brooks telephone conversation included the following comments:
-How does Caldwell fight a negative image?
-start with PR
- celebrate life, food, sports, art etc.
-focus on downtown
-reuse buildings
-What do we want to be?
- change our story
-get local people to spend time and money in Caldwell
-Two Top revitalization plans
-a programmed public plaza in the center of the downtown — definition of a plaza: a central
gathering place which must have shops, restaurants around it. Cannot be on the outskirts of downtown.
Needs to be hard scaped, not grass.
-a year round market— not a farmer's market but year round indoor
Note: People want downtowns more than ever
Caldwell needs to be branded: What do we want to be when we grow up?
Order in which downtowns grow:
1) Gathering place — plaza
2) Retail
3) Housing
99% of costs are paid by the city
Once in a while the City will pay 80% and balance paid by private sector 20%
There are some CDGB planning grants available for these types of costs.
Caldwell needs a branding /marketing plan
All levels of the community must participate eg: The City of Caldwell, Chamber of Commerce, Economic
Development, Private Sector, etc.
Lead committee should have 8 -13 members. Include someone from the City of Caldwell who will be
able to secure funding for projects.
Meeting adjourned. 10:45 a.m.
