Ad Hoc Planning Committee
Anita Wilson reported on the status of transportation to and from the schools. Transportation is booked,
with one bus for each school district. Donna Shines will assist on the Vallivue district bus to hand out
shirts & goodie bags as "registration ".
Names and Addresses of students have been submitted by Anita Wilson from VHS (22) and CHS (40)
Ron Bonneau confirmed the attendance of PlayFair a group out of New York which will be used to
engage the students early in the event. They will arrive the day prior to the forum and leave the day
after.
The schedule for the day is confirmed, with lunch moving up to 11:15 AM to avoid overcrowding in the
Simplot Dining Hall.
Those who were unable to observe the TEDTalk by Shane Koyzcan entitle "To This Day" can view it at
the following link. http: / /www.youtube.com /watch ?v= ltun92DfnPY
Anita Wilson requested that one counselor from CHS be allowed to observe the events of the day in
order to better understand what is happening and how to bring it back to CHS. She will try and contact
VHS to see if they would also like to bring along a counselor or other representative.
Student Advocates from Cofl have yet to be decided. Confirmed numbers of other attendants would be
helpful in deciding how many advocates can attend.
Nick Gof from the Idaho Press may do some coverage of forum on the day of the event.
T -Shirt designs have been priced. It is agreed that they will be printed in Meridian at Custom Image due
to their ability to remain true to the design. As soon as T -Shirt sizes are confirmed via mail they will be
ordered.
Silicone wristbands will be ordered through ReminderBand.
The letter of congratulations from the Mayor is brought up for review.
Ron Bonneau brought attention to the "bag of goodies" described in the Mayor's congratulation. We
will try to add a few gift cards (Bird Stop Cafe &/or Dutch Bros. ) to the bags as well as pens and pencils
from the Fire Department and City.
Anita Wilson suggests expanding on the purpose of the forum, adding mention of the NY presenter, and
emphasizing the confidence building and leadership potential. Possibly also highlighting the student
advocates from Cofl.
YMP Education and Workforce Readiness
Committee reviewed the goals for the next step in the YMP. Most of the goals are already being met by
the local schools.
Military and Trade School opportunities are regularly present at CHS and VHS but it is unknown whether
or not the Alternative schools for each district have access to them.
The possibility of developing a budgeting and financial responsibility type class in partnership with the
local banks is discussed.
CHS and VHS already do a career day type event during SAT testing annually. The date for this year's
event is set for April 16`' 2014.
The committee discussed the need for a career fair type event for the High Schools and local
community. This may take place at the O'Connor Field House and emulate the Boise Career Fair that the
students already attend annually.
The possibility of partnering with the Treasure Valley Educational Partnership on this is a possibility.
This discussion to be continued at the next meeting.
Meeting adjourned — Debbie Geyer & Donna Shines.
