. Air Communication —Barry stated that he feels the airport comes across as
"unfriendly" to transient pilots approaching the airport. He stated that this
needs to be improved, perhaps by a full -time person on UNICOM, who
would not so much address weather and traffic information, but provide a
"friendly" voice and answer questions about the airport.
Rob Oates stated that we currently operate with a Common Traffic Advisory
Frequency (CTAF), not UNICOM, and that there is no obligation to have full
time coverage. Rob does cover the radio frequencies during business
hours from his office and airport vehicle, and there is also some coverage
from Silverhawk Aviation. He stated that any FBO on the airport is
welcome to provide further coverage, as well. Wayne Thiel stated that he
doesn't hear about UNICOM much anymore, since AWOS /ASOS is
available. Rob will do some research on this issue and bring a report to the
next meeting.
• Traffic patterns — Barry felt that current traffic patterns could be improved
upon.
• Parking issues -- Barry was concerned about illegal parking impeding fire
truck safety at a T designed for fire trucks to turn around.
Rob stated that this issue is being addressed and signs have been
requested from the City Street Department. Marty Koch suggested that
enforcement needs to be researched and discussed at next month's
meeting. Brent Orton stated that upon posting of said signs, enforcement
would then be possible. Rob will go and talk with those involved, to inform
them that signs will be going up and enforced.
Rob stated that additional public parking space in the area is currently
being considered and could help alleviate this issue. It was suggested that
the area across Aviation Way be developed for better parking. Brent Orton
stated this use would be acceptable by the FAA for that area.
• Emergency Access — Barry suggested inviting representatives from the fire
department and ambulance providers to a future commission meeting to
find out what kind of training they need, and to perhaps encourage them to
do training here at the airport. He stated that the more training done, the
more familiar they'd be with airport operations.
Rob stated that signs have been placed on the gates with numbers to call if
emergency access is an issue. Also training is currently being discussed
with the Fire Department, and Rob will be going to the Police Department to
conduct training on on -field procedures.
• Commission Meeting recordings — Barry relayed a request from some
airport constituents that the meetings be recorded so they could listen to
them if they can't be here. Rob Oates informed him that the minutes of the
meetings are available on the City website.
Marty Koch, Barry Everett, Wayne Thiel and Rob Oates have volunteered for said
committee to discuss these issues and report back to the Commission.
4. Security Project — Rob Oates
Rob stated that he has been talking to Doug Kandle about the equipment needed
for the city's portion of the project. Due to various issues, including the holidays,
this equipment is not yet ready.
5. Announcements — Rob Oates
Rob had no announcements this month.
5. Canal - Brent Orton
In response to a question from a member as to where the canal -move stands,
Brent Orton, Public Works Director, stated that they have received a signed
approval /license from Pioneer to move the canal.
Follow -uA Checking after the meeting revealed that the Pioneer approval was for a
different project. The Airport canal -move approval is still pending.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:02 PM.
