I. Call to order. Vice-Chairperson Oates called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
II. Roll Call
Members Present. Elaine Leppert, Gina Lujack, Lorene Oates, Eileen Davidson,
Jan Boles, Steve Maughan, Anita Shore and Megan Dixon.
Members Absent. Chuck Randolph, Elaine Carpenter
Others Present. Brian Billingsley, Planning & Zoning Director, April Cabello,
Planning Technician, Rob Hopper, City Council Liaison.
Others Absent. None
III. Approval of Minutes. MOTION TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF MARCH 22,
2010 with the following correction under Commission Reports: Perseveration to
Preservation and budge to budget.
MOTION: Gina L., SECOND: Eileen D., MOTION PASSED.
IV. Certificate of Appropriateness Interviews.
A. Case No. CA-147-10 — 1601 Dearborn Street — A request by Bill Bohlman to
install railing on the flat roof.
1) Vice-Chair Oates opened the meeting and asked the applicant to give their
testimony.
2) Bill Bohlman, applicant stated they would like approval to install security /
decorative railing along the flat portion of the roof. Mr. Bohlman stated there
will be ch�ldreri coming this summer to stay with them and there is a door that
leads from the room they will be staying in out to the flat roof and it is not
safe. He planned on putting a deck on but it would not pass building code.
The wood that has been installed for the decking will be removed and he
would like to replace it with railing to keep the children and people from falling
off the roof.
3) Eileen D. asked from if this was visible from the side street.
4) Mr. Bohlman stated it is visible from 16 Street.
5) Jan B. asked if the existing framing will be used as the new railing.
6) Mr. Bohlman stated the structure he built would not meet building code and
has to be removed. Mr. Bohlman stated he will reuse some of the wood for
the railing.
7) Gina L. asked if this will be used as living space.
8) Mr. Bohlman stated they do not really have a plan for the use of the roof but
need to put up railing for safety.
9) Terry Mazurak, neighbor to Mr. Bohlman stated his concern with the original
project but when heard the project will be torn down and new railing would be
installed he was okay with the new plan. Mr. Mazvrak wanted the commission

• Message and the Medium. Vice-Chair Oates spoke on behalf of Elaine C. who
' wanfed the commission to be aware of an upcoming community workshop for
arts, culture, heritage and civic groups on May 20, 2010 from 2pm to 5pm.
X. Meeting adjourned at approximately 7:30 p.m.
