HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
Meeting of February 10, 1999
Idaho Room,
Caldwell Public Library
The Historic Preservation Commissioa met in the Idaho Room of the Caldwell
Public Library at Y:00 P.M.
Members Present: Jan Boles, Elaine Carpenter, Tom Ensley, Steve Maughan and
Rick Well.
Members Absent: Elaine Leppert and Chris Nye.
Community Development Staff: Bud Knickerbocker.
Call To Order: The meeting was caAed to order by Secretary Boles at 7:00 p.m.
Old Business:
Approval of Agenda: A motion to approve the agenda was made by
Commissionex Carpenter and seconded by Commissioned Maughan.
Approval of Minutes: A motion to approve the minutes was made by
Commissioner Maughan and seconded by Commissioner Carpenter.
Consultant Update: The Community Development Department has
advertised for bids. Bids are required at the Department on March 5, 1999.
The amount of the grant was $2900.00.
Comprehensive Plan Sub-Group Update: The next meeting with the
Department will be February 22, 1999 and the Commission will meet one
hour before their assigned time to combine all information discussed by this
sub-group. The Commission will reconsider the boundaries of the current
Area of Significance and suggest new boundaries for an Historic District with
zoning overlays for the District. The Commission will also discuss the levels of
importance of each District if more than one District is established.

Depot: The Townsite Committee will no longer be using the Depot. The
Commission may approach the Idaho Historic Trust for "bricks and mortar"
money to renovate the interior of the depot.
Reports: No reports by subcommittees were presented at this meeting.
New Business:
Money for Walking-Tour Brochure: Commissioner Carpenter has two offers
for reprinting the wallang-tour brochure. It has been suggested that
members contact Chuck Randolph for a walking tour of the downtown area.
Budget: The Commission has had a budget in past years. Their budget was
combined with the Community Development Department and as such the
Commission has no funds to work on projects in the District.
Discussion of Preservation Issues: The Commission will consider applying for
grants to place signs at the sites of Caldwell historic events. The Commission wants
to work with the Downtown Caldwell Association on signs in related areas. These
signs are important educational tools for the public.
Next Meeting: The next meeting is scheduled for March 10, 1999 at 7:00 P.M. and
will be held at the Albertson College archives. Gaetha Pace of the Idaho Historic
Trust will be present at this meeting and will make a presentation on the Trust's work
in Idaho.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
