Everyone agreed tha� it is a nice brochure. Cooper told the board that they need to get back to Wayne Englehorn and Jack Teraberry about what we are going to do about hole three at Fairview. We had told them that we would possibly make this a par three as it once was. Wayne and Jack were told that we woulci no� make a ciecision untii we hacl a new course superin�enden�t nirecl. Cooper welcomed �on Wrest, the new course superintendent, to the meeting. Cooper told Ron that his first official order of business was to tell the board what he thought shauld be done with hole three at t=airview. Ron Wrest said he had studied the problem and he recommends that we change the hole to a par three. Ron said we would need some netting on the left side for the tee off of hole nine. Loraine i�iavis asked it naving three fhree pars in a row could attec�E our course accreditation. Lenny said it would not have any affect. Ron said he thought we should enlarge the green on hole three. Cooper asked for comments from the board. Elvin Simpson said he thought it would be good to make it a par three. Shirley Akagi made a motion, seconded by Fran Craeger, that we redesign and transform hole number three at Fairview into a par three. Lenny Stroup reminded the board that if we fence behind the green on this hole we would Mave to put a sidewalk behind the fence. i he motion passed unanimously. Cooper asked Ron when he thought we should do this project. Ron said he would do a cost , study on it and report back. John said we are within a few hundred dollar.s of being ihe same as ias"t year. .iohn saia we nave haa some vandaiism at the cart storage sheds. He suggested that we put some lighting at night around the cart sheds. Elvin Simpson saici this wouid be a good iciea. 5hiriey AKagi agreeci. �ooper asked i on v�%rest to look into the cost of getting some lights a� the cart sheds. Jol�n said that some people want to have a city Senior CMampionship Tournament. The board told John to go ahead with this event. John said that Brad Carrow was heading up this event. 3) REPORT FROM LENNY STROUP Lenny reports that r=airview is stiii down a iittie bui some good weather shouid put us back on top. Dan �3oeppie, who bought a season pass, wrote Lenny requesting a retund "because he is unable to play. The board authorized Lenny to proceed with this refund. Lenny has the Idaho Youth Games coming up next Saturday, and that he has 140 kids signed up in the juniox golf program. Lenny said "tha"t Kon v�irest had been doing some reafiy grea"t �hings at rairview. 4) REPORT FROM RON WREST Ron saia he hacf spen� �ne iast Tew weeks examining the equipmen"t and iooking over horticultural practices, along with other procedures. He is ins�alling a computer. This will give a daiiy, weekiy, monthiy report on aii equipment. Kon said "he has interviewed aii the employees that work at both golf courses. He asked all employees to make a list of the things "they wouia iike "to see happen at ihe goir courses. i he mos� criiicai issues were discussed. Ron said they now have a capital project list of five things for June for both golf courses, tive things ror Juiy. i-ie says that now "the crew has ciirection. Kon said one ot the things on the do list at Purple Sage is to repair the 17t'' green. .They are going to replace and paint all yardage markers. New sand will be put in all the sand traps. Ron said he has put two new seasonal workers at Purple Sage. Fairview also will have to have another worker. Ron said the goit pros have aeen very heiprui. Ron said he is going to have to keep the early morning golfers off the course so that the workers can get their morning tasks done. This is a problem that Ron and John are working on. John Watson said that some golfers are going to have to e educated in the dew system. Ron and John saia "they wouia need "the backing e board �o heip ini"tiaie these new policies. "� Cooper told them that the board was 100% behind them. Ron said that was all he had to say at this time. He said he is enjoying his new job. Cooper said he haci been approached by many golters who saicl they though"t the course was already looking better. Cooper asked the members of the board if they had any questions to ask Ron. Elvin Simpson said he liked they way the approacf�es to the greens were being mowed close. A discussion was heici on the ropes "tha"t have been put up at rairview to protect certain areas from golf carts. Gan Koweii askea it we are conserving water because the course seems dry. Ron said "they have been experimenting with the water system: Ron said that the computer system has not been being useci "the way i"t was ciesigned. Loraine Navis commented that the area around the clubhouse was looking better at both courses. 5) NEW OR OLD BUSINESS EI.Jay riVaite said that with �he new mechanic that will be hired pius the new workers, it looks as if we will have a shortfall. He said he thought We will probably need to cover an additional $100,000 a year. EI Jay said that there are several ways to approach this problem and that Mayor Nancolas would like the golf board to look at the pFarious ways to increase revenue and report back to the mayor and councii. A discussion was held on various ways to more revenue. John Watson said that many courses have iimited or done away wi�h season passes Shirley Akagi said she would not like to see u5 do away with the seven-day season pass. Ron 1A/rest said the Caidwell has the cheapest rates in the Boise valley. EIJay said that we have to be thinking bout building a new golf course on the land we are purchasing. Lenny said that our junior passes are really tao cheap. EIJay said the Mayor and Council are ail in favor of keeping �he rate low fior juniors. Chairman Gooper said he would be cal►ing a special meeting of the board to examine the financiai picture. Dan Rowell said he thought Loraine should write a letter to the editor about the people who couldn't find a course fior their fiamily to play on. She will tell them to come to Caldwell. As there was no more business, the meeting was adjourned. ,__ �
