Staff: Liz Yeary The June 4, 1992 meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission was called to order in the City Hall Conference Room by Chairman Chuck Randolph at 7:00 p.m. The minutes of the April 9, 1992, meeting were approved. Chairman Randolph reported that Dennis Crooks had indicated an interest in serving as a Commissioner and would be contacting the Mayor in this regard. The Chairman also reported that LeAnn Simmons, on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, was interested in literature regarding historic properties to be available at the Chamber. He also mentioned a brochure under discussion between Caldwell Parks & Recreation Department and the Kiwanis concerning Curtis Park. Mrs. Yeary will obtain a copy and bring to the next meeting. There was general discussion concerning funding of such literature by organizations such as the .Whittenberger Foundation and the Caldwell Community Foundation. It was suggested that the Commission might meet in the Idaho Room and see what kind of public information has been produced and what is available. Mrs. Yeary reported that Ms. Ottens felt the promotion of a local historic district should be revived. The Commission suggested that the City Attomey review the ordinance presented previously conceming formation of a local historic district and Ms. Yeary review the list of properties and make any amendments that may have taken place since the original application. It was agreed to obtain information from Elaine Leppert concernuig a wallcing tour, and any information Teri Ottens might have on a downtown walking tour. Chuck R�ndolph will research Caldwell Community Foundation funding procedures. Madeline Buckendorf agreed to research through the Idaho Historical Society guidelines on historical signage. There was discussion over the need for more Commission members and Chuck agreed to contact L. Attebury. MINUTES - HISTORIC PRESERVATION COIVIlVIISSION June 4, 1992 - P.1 • k � � � The Chairman advised the Commission that Susan Stacey will be be,�nning the survey for I992 during the second week of June. The Chairman reminded everyone of the upcoming Idaho Historical Society Annual Conference and encouraged members to attend. Mr. Randolph raised the question of what will the Commission do with the information gathered in the four years of study. There was a suggestion that when the current survey is completed all subject property owners for the whole four years should be invited to a presentation by Susan Stacey on the project. There might also be a brochure produced on upgrading historic homes or submitting them for historic register nomination. Under new business, the Commission discussed the historic area between Dearborn and Fillmore and 13th Avenue and 19th Avenue and the necessity to possibly request a rezone of that area as soon as possible to protect the integriry of that district.
