HomeMy WebLinkAbout8-2-1990 CHPC MINUTES ' • • � � � HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION MINUTES Meeting of August 2, 1990 The meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission on August 2, 1990, was called to order in the City Hall Conference Room by Vice Chairman, Tom Ensley, in the absence of Chairman Chuck Randolph at 7:15 p.m. Present: Vice Chairman Tom Ensley, Nathelle Oates, Madeline Buckendorf, Bill Gigray III, Dennis Crooks, Teri Brandt—Ottens, Art Honey and Darin Huebert. , Dennis Crooks began the meeting with an Historic Survey update. � letter from the histaric consultant was distributed and discussed. Dennis stated that the consultant was in the process of finishing up the intensive level survey on the four chosen sites and the two alternates and that the expected completion date w�s August 20, 1990. Next, site survey information and photo documentation associated with the College of Ida.ho street vacation and er,pansion program was distributed and discussed. The next item was introduced by Dennis and involved the Planning and Zoning Commission moving toward conducting meetings two times a month (ist & 3rd Thursdays of the month) and a conflict with the normal meeting date for the Historic Preservation Commission which is the 1st Thursday of the month. Consideration was given to move the regular meeting to the first Tuesday of every month. No final action was t��cen �an this it�m. Teri Brandt—Ott�ns indicated that the newly painted Depot was gozng to be the site of an art show �t the end of September. There will be a volunteer work day at the Depot on the 11th of August to do some more painting and general cleanup. Teri also brought the Commission up to date on the pres�ntation of the representative from R/UDAT and the status of the possible R/UDAT study. After some discussion, Bill Gigray III made a motion which was seconded by Art Honey that the Historic Preservation Commission officially endorse a R/UDAT study. The motion passed unanimously. Dennis Crooks, followed by mentioning that 1990 grant applications were to be submitted to the State Historic Preservation Office by October 1, 1990 �nd that the Commission members should be thinking about possible projects. Dennis indicated that some grant funds were being made availc�ble for building renovation for sites listed on the National Register of Historic places. An updated list of Caldwell sites along with some photographs of the buildings were distributed to Commission ' • • • members. There was no consensus on the type at pro�ect to pursue in 1990. The item was deferred for additional discussion at the next meeting. Next, Dennis introduced the Commission to the Comprehensive Plan update and a goal to include an Historic component to the Plan. Dennis suggested that the Historic Commission function as a sub- committee of the Planning and Zoning Commission. Dennis indicated he would follow-up with more information on this item. A special meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission was set for Tuesday, August 21, 1990 at 7:00 p.m, in the Council Conference Room in order to review intensive Ievel site survey material prior to final project submittal to the �State Historic Preservation Office.
