HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-24-2000 POLICE COMMISSION MINUTES , _. _ . : Caldwell City Police Station Bond Committee Meeting Minutes January 24, 2000 Present: Bob Sobba, Christopher Green, Rita Earl, Dennis Callsen, Qave Wright, Wayne Eisenbrandt, Helen McKinney, Tim Spencer, Patty Mickelsen, Tony Ozuna, Jim Hitt, Sami Schmitt, ANan Laird, Bud Way, Fred Cornforth, Jesse Floyd, Bob Larson, Chuck Randolph, Dee Child, Elaine Carpenter, Casey Crookham, Es#ella Zamora, Dale Peterson, Rod Endow, Dr. Rich Bauscher and Dr. Glen Basey. Absent: Bill Norman, Mayor Nancolas, Gary Maybon, Katie Roach, Margaret Langan, Thelma Carpenter, Mary Ann Grimm, Dr. Will Black, Danny Ozuna, Dr. Kevin Learned, Gilbert Hafen, Jesus deLeon, Vaughn Heinrich, Ryan Beuier and Valinda Gabbard. The Meeting was callect to order by [Jr. Basey at 6:30 p.m. The minutes from the previous committee meeting on the 17' of January 2000 vwere approved as read and dispersed. Moved, Seconded, Approved. (M/S/A) AD HOC COMMITTEE REP�RTS Door to Door K.0 Croakham reported that canvassing has gone very well. The areas by 12 & Cleveland, Linden 8� Washington, Fairoaks to Shapiro, Sylvan Street, Kimball & Linden, Hibbard Subdivision by the Mormon Church and the subdivision off Airport by Unden have been canvassed. Even though residents are in their bedclothes, they are willing to discuss the issue with the Youth Coalition, Everyone has received verY positive responses. Most of the no responses came from the area by the 7�' Day Adventist Church and Highway 55 to 45. Sami was thanked for all she and the High School volunteers have done to help us. Reminder Cards will be stamped on Wednesday evening at 306 Hitldrop in Caldwell. Everyone will meet at Patty Midcelsons home at 7 p.m. Sami has 10 Youth Coalition members going with her to Patty's home. Patty anticipated that she will have plenty of Melp. �romo�ions Allan Laird has completed all of the promotian activities this week. 'Yard signs have been passed out and distributed to various locations in the City. Calling of helpers and making sure all letters were sent in were completed by he and Estella Zamora. Roll catl was taken of names she had on fiile #or Letters to the Editor. The Yauth Coalition wants to keep helping in some respect even though they are not able to vote. They will work in the schools to help promote the issues. Channel 12 has been contacted and will be at the school tonight to hear the report to the public on the bond issue. Channel 7 reported the issue at 5 p.m. Ali letters to the editor wilt not be printed after Thursday at 4 p.m. Dr. Basey was disappointed with his letter ta the editor and not feeling like he had the papers' support. Estella passed out information during the Martin Luther King Rally. KC Crookham has only heard that $'s are the complaint now. Chiefi Sobba pulled out photos of books for matching size to dollars on the cost issue. Three property owners have donated land to allow this sale. The question, ts anyone getting rich on this deal? was raised and answered. 7his answered the issue on the difference between the assessed value and sales value. The $129 per square foot building cost does not inGude the cost af the purchase of the land. The c,ost of $142 per square foot cas# at the Jwenile Detention Centers project was used as a comparabls. Is the center going to be used as a dual-purpose faality with youth after schot�l projects there and if so, what is the d'ifferenCe between butlding near a school and having school age youths in the facility? There was some discussion of the building being a well built- state of the art 40 year constructed building. A pragram for youth offenders regarding youth accountabi(ity was described as a differerrt venue for the police station than an after schaol youth program.
