HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-18-1992 WELLNESS MINUTES r • � FOR THE HEALTH OF IT CITY WELLNESS PROGRAM Minutes Meeting of November 18, 1992 The meeting was called to order at City Hall at 12:00 noon. The first item of business was the claims report. Carol distributed the report and explained that the month of October was the largest one yet due to bills being paid for a heart attack by a retiree. The next item of business was the Wellness Program. Sue distributed a summary of the lst and 2nd testing, showing the total number of people participating in the program, testing, and incentive dollars distributed. Kevin asked if the committee thought employees would be more comfortable if there were more females doing the testing. It was the consensus of the committee that this may help those who do not want a male to do the actual testing. Kevin also stated that it may be possible for all the females to test together without males present. There was brief discussion regarding the Fire Department testing and getting on the same schedule as the rest nf City employees. Teri explained that there had been a meeting the Fire Department employees and a compromise was made regarding letting them carry their points over in December for their next testing. They agreed to test in December, carry the points that they have in the bank and then get on the same schedule as the City. Therefore, they will have three testing periods this year and the City will have two. Although next year they will have two testing periods and the rest of the City will have three. There was discussion regarding who the law requires to have First Aid classes for City employees. The State Safety Inspector has required that certain department personnel take a First Aid class. The next item of business as regarding the educational classes. Sue stated that a topic was needed and someone to organize it for the month of January. Joy Perry agreed to take January and Sheila McGregor the month of February. (Ellen Erskine is going to do a time management class in March) The ne� item of business as the presentation made to the committee in the October meeting. After discussion it was the consensus of the committee to get Colonial Insurance and AFLAX Insurance to give a presentation to the City employees in the month of December. Also in that meeting will be information on the 125 Cafeteria Plan as this needs to be discussed before the first pay period in January. � � • � The next item discussed was a Deferred Comp. Plan. After discussion it was the consensus of the committee to delay a presentation and decision on this matter. The next item of discussion was the aerobics class offered to City employees. There are a maximum of 4 City employees attending at this time and the instructor is receivin from each attendin g$100 a month (plus $7 g). After brief discussion it was the consensus of the committee to delay a decision on this issue until January meeting and see if Old Jefferson Jr. High gym is ready for occupancy. There is a possibility that this building would be a site for an aerobics class and City employees could get it at a reduced rate. There was brief discussion regarding the City Council passing an Ordinance that will make the majority of City facilities smoke free. The Ordinance is going to have a second reading in the near future. Teri has given the Council several alternatives and options to choose from and they are considering these before making a final decision. It was stated that it is time for the Wellness Committee members to receive their $25 bonus. Teri instructed Sue to take care of the paper work for this.
