HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-30-1990 CANYON COUNTY MINUTES ! . • � CANYON COUNTY CRIME COALITION JULY 30, 1990 _ A meeting of the Canyon County Crime Coalition was held July 3Q, 1990 at 9:00 at the Caldwell City Hall. The following officials were present: , Timothy Spencer - Canyon County Prosecutor�'s Office G. F. Crawford - Nampa Police Department � Donna Blackburn - Caldwell Steven Degitz - Wilder Police Department Bob Sobba - Caldwell Police Department Joe Valdez - Caldwell City Council Elizabeth Craico - Citizen ` Betty Rowell - Notus City Council Garret Nancolas - Caldwell City Council Glen Koch - Canyon Co�anty Commissioner Bob Jarboe - Caldwell Crime Commissioner Cheryl Wood - Caldwell Police Department The Crime Equipment Fund was reviewed, we had previously set a goal of $4,500 from Caldwell, Nampa and County, and $1,500 from Middleton, Melba, Wilder, Notus and Greenleaf. Status for each city is: � County - in the budget process Nampa - Chief is out of town, budget in process Caldwell - Monies have been promised. Wilder - short on funds will see what they can do Notus - Has not started budget process Greenleaf - Not present Middleton - No present Melba - Not present It was decided that the fund be set up at First Security Bank as soon as the budget year goes into effect. Following the last meeting, the chiefs present got together and decided that an Alternative Light Source (Lazer) was a first on their list for equipment purchased. Cost of such runs approximately $10,000. It was also decided that the equipment would be housed at the Canyon County Crime Lab. It was agreed that a Memorandum of Understanding be drawn ua between the Cities to establish a mutual agreement of the Crime Commission Coalition and the funds donated by each city. This agreement should be similar to the CCNU agreement. Tim Spencer is to look at that agreement and make suggestions for the Coailiton's. 1 V � � i � The needs of each city were discussed. Caldwell is at this time working with Wilder on the issue of vehicles. The grant Nampa City has for the CCNU, which is a$110,000 grant will be ending. Hopefully Caldwell or a neighboring city can pick this grant up. The grant presentl,y pays for a part-tirie secretary, the Owyhee County Officer, it subsidizes tr�e Prosecutor's office and next year should add one more officer to the Narcotics Unit. Chief Bob Sobba briefed the Coalition on the recent drug bust �in Caldwell. One-hundred-thirty known heroin 'addicts have been identified from Nampa, Caldwell, Canyon County and Ada County. These were major dealers that were arrested. We received fifteen indictments. Fift.y officers from seven agencies were involved including Caldwell, Nampa, County, CCNU, DEA, State Tax and Ada County. Captain Crawford informed us that 2 people had been arrested at Fred Meyers for shoplifting. $2,058 worth of inerchandise was recovered in this shoplifting spree. The topic of a juvenile detention center was discussed. There is a substantial amount of red tape involved to get funding. The � Canyon County Commissioners are working on it at this time. Garret Nancolas is to look in to private corporations assisting in the funding of such a facility. Donna Blackburn has been appointed the Canyon County Crime Coalition Events Coordinator. Donna is from Caldwell and is involved in various programs. Bob Jarboe would like all of the City and County officials to have a get together. He suggested a picnic and Boise Hawks game. Cost would be approximately $15.00 per person. More information to come. The Next meeting of the Coalition will be held in September, we will be advising you of the date.
