HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-14-1991 MAYOR'S YOUTH COUNCIL r � • . , MAYOR'S COMMITTEE FOR THE EMPLOYMENT OF PERSONS AND OLDER WORKERS MINUTES Meeting of February 14, 1991 Preaent: Chairman Larry Mitchell, Teri Ottens, Sandy Burmeister, MaryLou Cooper, George Ferney, Floyd Rhoades, Tony Wieczorek, Leland VanSlyke, Leslie Austin, Sandra Farnetti, Carol Foster. Guest: Brent Aldasini (student at WITCO) The meeting was called to order by Chairman Larry Mitchell at 12:00 noon at the Elks Lodge in Caldwell. Teri Ottens announced that letters requasting support of the Mayor's Committee had been mailed to local businesses and the respanse from those letters has been good. Approximately $680.00 has been received from those business ($20.00 a piece). She also reported that several businesses have communicated that they wish to donate but are waiting for the new brochure to be published. Teri reported that the first draft has been completed and the second draft needs to be finalized before printing. Teri indicated that there are still facilities that need to be checked for handicap accessibility before the brochure can be completed. She will get a list together of those businesses that need checking and present it at the next meeting. Teri then presented a draft Resolution for the review of the Committee. Teri indicated that this Resolution if presented to the City Council will aid the City in getting staff trained and informed on regulations and codes pertaining to handicap accessibility when inspecting new developments. Leland VanSlyke made a motion to recommend the Resolution to the City Council. Tony Wieczorek seconded the motion. A vote was taken and the motion passed unanimously. Chairman Mitchell asked if there were any signs available for placing at business that have a handicapped parking space and no sign in front of it. Teri indicated that the City has approximately 15 signs left and anyone who knows a local business that needs one can contact the City. Tony suggested that an article be placed in the paper stating that the signs are available. Teri informed the Committee that the Idaho Press Tribune has contacted her requesting information as to why Nampa no longer has a Mayor's Committee. Teri indicated ta them that there are mernbers on this Committee representing Nampa. There was discussion concerning getting a Mayor's Committee started again in Nampa so that they would be better be able to address the issues that concern their own community. Tony made a motion for this Committee to encourage Mayor Dakan to contact Mayor Goering and offer assistance or information in getting a Committee re-started in Nampa. Floyd Rhoades seconded the motion. A vote was taken and the motion passed unanimously. 1 ,r . � , Chairman Mitchell suggested that the Executive Director from the Governars Committes also be contact for any assistance they could provide on this matter.
