HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-12-1991 MAYOR'S YOUTH COUNCIL , � � MINUTES � MAYOR'S COMMITTEE FOR THE EMPLOYMENT OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES AND OLDER WORKERS Meeting of December 12, 1991 Present: Chairman Larry Mitchell, Gwynne Brady, Kathie Green, Don Thompson, George Ferney, Linnie Jensen, Lois Adair, MaryLou Cooper, Teri Ottens, Sue Mullen, recording secretary and guest speaker Margaret Langan, Canyon County Organization on Aging. Chairman Larry Mitchell called the meeting to order at 12:00 noon at the Elks Lodge in Caldwell. The first item of business was the approval of the minutes from the meeting of November 14, 1991. With no corrections or additions it was the consensus of the committee to approve the minutes as distributed. The next item of business was the employment newsletter. Teri indicated that information went out in the mail with the last Chamber mailing concerning two individuals ready for work. There was discussion regarding getting this information to a variety of sources so that it is readily available for employers. Teri stated that she will talk to the Idaho Press Tribune and KCID about doing a story on this program. Don Thompson stated if committee members will bring qualified prospective employees names to each meeting of the Mayor's Committee, they will be collected and sent out with the Chamber's mailing the first of the following month. He further stated that this program should be evaluated in approximately 6 months and revamped if necessary. The next item of business was the Task Force update. Larry Mitchell stated that there is going to be another meeting in Boise and anyone who would like to attend is welcome. Don Thompson indicated that he is interested in attending. There was discussion regarding a community forum to inform the public about the ADA and what it means to their business. After brief discussion, Don Thompson agreed to set up a speaker, time and place for the forum. Teri made a motion to approve the spending of up to $300 for pon's use in setting up this community meeting. Lois Adair seconded the motion. A vote was taken and the motion passed unanimously. Ms. Langan distributed several handouts with information about the program. It was a very informative and useful presentation.
