Teri stated that she has spoken to Ken Jones, Chair of the Boise Committee, and they are very interested in merging and working on several projects together. She further stated that if this committee is going to continue as a separate committee we need to stay focused on a specific project and attempt to get the committee members to pitch in and help. We also need to do another membership drive and try to get more members. Mayor Winder asked how many handicapped individuals there were on the committee. At the present time there are two with several past handicapped members that have discontinued coming to the meetings. Mayor Winder mentioned that the County is attempting to put together a County wide committee, headed by the Commissioners, to deal with transportation issues and suggested that this committee consider talking to them when dealing with this issue. Aher lengthy discussion regarding projects, Teri stated that Kevin Dawkins has volunteered to act as Chairman of the committee with the understanding that other members of the committee will help him with the tasks. There were no volunteers for Vice-Chair. Teri stated that she will call Kevin and discuss the projects brought up and let him elect a Vice-Chair at the next meeting. . Th ne;xt itc;m of business was the Spring Program with Lee Busard. Teri statc;d that Boise has committed to having Mr. Busard speak but they have not found a facility. They are going to get her the information by Monday the 14th to enable her to put together the tlier that will be going to all businesses. Teri further stated that shc; secured the Nampa Civic Center for the Canyon County seminar. They would not let the facility be utilized for free but have cut the cost in half, which means $200. She stated that we will need to find a corporate sponsor to help with this cost, since the committee does not have the full amount in their account that it will cost to get Mr. Busard here and cover all expenses. Teri is going to attempt to find that corporate sponsor. The total cost to this Mayor's Committee will be $1150. Mr. Busard will speak at the Nampa Civic Center 7:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. and in Boise at 12:00 noon. He is arranging his own transpiration and lodging. Teri stated that she has spoken with KCID radio and the Idaho Press Tribune. The Tribune is going to do a public announcement prior to the seminar and a story about his seminar arter it is complete. They will be interviewing Mr. Busard at the Civic Center at the conclusion of his talk. There was discussion regarding the mailings that need to go out prior to the seminar. The Chamber of Commerce has agreed to put a notice with their next newsletter, JSEC has agreed to mail with their regular newsletter, Cerebral palsy has agreed to do a lot of mailing, and the Ciry could use the Chambers labels of Caldwell businesses. That mailing would cover over 1000 notifications in the Nampa/Caldwell area. Sue agreed to talk to Chuck Randolph from the Caldwell School District and see if a flier ean be sent home with the students. With no further business a plaque was given to Teri Ottens for her dedicated service to this committee for 5 years. Teri will not be attending the Caldwell meetings due to her new position in Boise. She plans to become active in the Boise Mayor's Committee. There was discussion regarding the removal of the handicapped parking spaces in the downtown area. Teri stated that several committee members have voiced concern to her about their removal. Mayor Winder stated that most of those spaces were not to specifications due to street slope and access to the sidewalk. Most of the spaces required that the handicapped person get out into traffic. Teri asked if this committee could work with Dennis Crooks, Planning and Zoning Director, on getting those spaces back in the downtown area. Mayor Winders stated that that would be the person to deal with at this point. Respectfully submitted, -- ' a Sue Brown, Recording Secretary
