SAFETY COMMITTEE
MINUTES
Meeting of October �U� Iqq 2
The meeting was called to order at 9:30 a.m. at City Hall by
Chairman Dave Garcia.
The first item of business was a discussion regarding the
requirement from the State Safety Inspector for employees in
various departments to have a First Aid Class. Chris Groom, Parks
& Recreation, spoke to the committee on this issue. He stated that
he was in contact with the Red Cross instructor and the City can
receive 10 books for $95. The class will be for 8 hours and it can
be divided up into 2- 4 hour days or all in one 8 hour day.
However, the classes cannot be more than 10 people at one time.
Approximately 40-45 City employees will need to take the course.
After discussion it was the agreement of the committee members to
bring this item up to Administration and at the next Department
Head Staff ineeting and attempt to get an agreement of how and when
this class will be offered.
The next item of business was regarding offering a tetanus shot to
employees who work in departments that put them at risk. Sue
stated that it has been arranged with West Valley Medical Center
Emergency Room to offer the shot to City employees the month of
December only. The cost will be $6.00 each for those who take
advantage of it. The hospital will have a list of employees and as
they go in to get the vacination their name will be crossed off the
list and at the end of the month the hospital will send a total
billing to the City.
The next item of business was the State inspection violations from
each department. A copy of the violations was distributed to the
committee members and each item was briefly discussed. The target
date for completion for the corrections was discussed and various
items were assigned to committee members for follow-up. There was
discussion regarding an inspection by the Safety Director with
Charlie Chadwick (and possibly others) after the first of the year
to make sure some of these violations are being corrected.
There was brief discussion regarding the cost of work boots for
employees and the City possibly raising the reimbursement fee. A
formal recommendation needs to be made to the City Council.
There was discussion regarding each member of the Committee giving
a presentation on various topics each month. Dave Garcia agreed to
take the first month beginning in November.
With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
