SAFETY COIIIKITTEE
MINUTES
Meeting of January 26, 1994
The meeting was called to order by Co-Chair, Dave Garcia, at
City Hall in the Conference room at 9:00 a.m.
The first item of business was the incentives that are going
to be ordered by all departments.
NOTE: This project was budgeted for in the 93-94 budget to give
all full-time employees some kind of incentive to keep safety in
the work place on their minds and also as a reward for keeping
industrial accidents at a minimum.
Each department represented discussed which incentive they
would like for their department employees. (List attached).
The next item of business was the facility inspections that
Dave Garcia and Charlie have been doing to make sure all violations
have been corrected since the State inspection. Dave stated that
the facilities are looking really good most violations have been
corrected. A few violations that have not been corrected were
discussed and a target date set to get them completed.
There was discussion regarding a phone line at Purple Sage
Golf Course that needs attention. Charlie stated that he will cal
U.S. West and get this taken care of.
Sue distributed a certificate sent from State Insurance Fund
for keeping accident claims low. She asked that this be posted in
each department to let all the employees see it. She further
stated that we received a$17,000 refund from State Insurance Fund
this year. Hopefully we can convince the Council in the future to
use a portion of this refund for the Safety Committee for
incentives or safety equipment that we would like to purchase.
Dave stated that he had been through all of the accident
claims since 1979 and found that the number of claims has decreased
quite a bit, especially in the area of back injuries.
Sue mentioned that it is time to think about setting up First
Aid classes for those that need to be recertified and those
employees hired since we held the last class. There was question
as to whether the certificate received is good for 1 or 3 years.
Sue stated that she will call Red Cross and check on this. Classes
will be arranged in the next few months for new employees.
There was lengthy discussion regarding the purchase of boots
for part-time employees. An employee working in the Internal
Services Department recently cut his foot badly and Charlie feels
it could have been prevented if he was wearing steel toed boots.
It was the consensus of the committee to bring this item back to
the next meeting before making a decision.
With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 9:45
a .m.
Respectfully submitted,
