 SAFETY COMMITTEE
MINUTES
5eptember 29, 1994
Present: Charlie Chadwick, Sue Brown, Christina Adame, Linda
Heib, Allan Laird, Terry Martin, Dave Garcia, and Dave Marston.
The meeting was called to order at 9:10 a.m. at City Hall in the
Conference Room.
The first item of business was a review of the violations
received by the State and how departments are doing with getting
their corrections done. Each department represented was reviewed
and all corrections are on schedule at this point.
The next item of business was the budget for 94-95. Sue reported
that $2,000 has been approved for Personnel Training and $500 for
Operational Supplies. The committee needs to decide what kinds
of educational classes/seminars or material to begin arranging
for employees after October 1. Some of the classes that were
mentioned were: Traffic Control, Fire Extinguisher use, self
defense, trench rescue, fire and electrical safety on the job.
Sue asked that the committee members find out from the employees
in their department what the interests are and she will attempt
to find material or classes on a particular topic.
Allan Laird reported that Bruce Allcott is giving a 2 day seminar
at the Courthouse in October that deals with community critical
incidents (such as the fire downtown recently). There was
interest from several individuals at the meeting to attend this
seminar since they (or their department) is called in to help
when this kind of incident occurs. Sue stated that she would get
the particulars of this class and send out a memo with the
information.
Allan also re orted that the POST Academy is giving a class
P
called "Instructor Development". This class is designed for the
individual that would like to learn how to make a proper
presentation to a group. Individuals going to this class could
then go to other seminars and return with the skills to present
the information to the other employees in their department. Sue
stated that she would include this information in the memo.
There was lengthy discussion regarding the need for CPR and First
Aid classes to be arranged. There are many employees whose CPR
cards have either expired or they have never had an opportunity
to take a class. For those employees who need first time CPR and
First Aid, a class will be arranged after the first of the year. '
For those employees who need to be recertified in CPR, a class
could be arranged as soon as all the names are turned in.
Charlie reminded the committee members that at least one person
from every crew must hold a current CPR and First Aid card. If
more employees from those same crews are interested in taking the

, y pay the expense. There was
discussion regarding whether the Library staff were required to
take the class and neither Charlie or Sue knew for sure. Linda
reported that she believes several employees from the Library
will want to take it. The Committee agreed that they should be
allowed to do so.
There was brief discussion regarding the possible purchase of a
"Dummy" to use for CPR purposes so that when a recertification
class is given the City does not have to rent them from the Red
Cross.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Sue Brown
