HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-26-1995 SAFETY COMMITTEE s SAFETY CODIITTEE MEETING January 26, 1995 Present: Linda Heib, Dave Marston, Terry Martin, Dave Garcia, Alan Laird, Jim Hitt, Sue Brown, Charlie Chadwick and Curt Doty. The meeting was called to order at City Hall in the Conference Room at 9:00 a.m. The first item of business was the facility inspections that Charlie and Elroy have been doing to follow up on the State inspection violations. Charlie reported that most of the violations have been corrected and named a few yet to be completed. He also stated that City Hall is not complete with all ADA modifications. A phone has been installed in the elevator that rings directly to the Security company, and floor numbers were installed on the outside of the elevator, both visual and braille. The Library needs to have their handicapped parking space installed and the Street Department is still working on that; the stadium cannot complete all of their requirements due to lack of funding; the Police Department still has a fan to be installed; and the Parks will begin upgrading the water fountains in the Spring. The next item of business discussed was some educational material that Elroy and Sue were reviewing. Sue reported that Elroy had the material and it appeared that he wanted to purchase it. Alan Laird made a motion to approve the purchase. Dave Garcia stated that he would like to view the material first. Sue stated that she would get the material from Elroy and make some copies for the Safety Committee members. The next item of business was that of the random drug and alcohol testing policy that will be required by the Federal Government to be in place by January, 1996. There was extensive discussion regarding some of the requirements that will need to be in the policy, sending the services out for bid when the policy is complete and which employees to include in the policy. It was the general consensus of the committee to include all employees in the policy. Information received so far indicates that 50 of CDL drivers will be required to be tested for drugs and 20°a for alcohol annually. One suggestion made was to comply with that mandate and make a decision on what percentage of other employees would be chosen randomly for testing. After lengthy discussion it was the consensus of the committee members to have Sue research the requirements, get sample policies from other agencies and bring any information back to the committee at a future meeting. Sue stated that when the policy is before them it may take several long meetings to analyze it and make the necessary changes before it goes to the attorney and then to the City Council for their approval. , w A report was given on the First Aid and CPR classes that have been held for employees . Dan Ryan will be presenting an invoice for the employees that took First Aid. Alan Laird stated that he and one other officer will be going to a training session for American Heart Association to become certified instructors. This will relieve John Hogg at the Fire Department from doing all the training of employees annually. There was a request for another CPR class to be scheduled for those who could not make this session. Sue stated that she would send a memo and see if at least 5 employees were interested before setting up a class with John Hogg. With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 10:10 a.m. Respectfully submitted, . Sue Brown, Co-Chair
