HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-21-1996 COMMITEE - SAFETY CObmlITTEE MINUTES JUNE 21, 1996 Present: Elroy Huff, Jim Hitt, Gerald Smart, Robert Vasquez, Bruce Reck, Russ Foreman, Dave Garcia, Mark wendelsdorf, Susan Imeson. Robert opened the meeting at 9:00 a.m. in the City Hall Conference Room. The first item of discussion was first-aid, whether or not aspirin should be included in the first-aid kits, or any other medication that is taken internally. Robert felt there could be a problem with liability. Robert said he'd talked with Kurt Anderson our Loss Control Officer, and he indicated he didnt think it was a problem. The suggestion was make that you could bring your own medication (aspirin cold capsules). Gerald Smarts suggestion was, we could have a policy to release the City of liability, or draft a disclaimer for the Mayor to sign. Without further discussion, no decision was made at this time. The next topic of discussion was whether or not we should meet more often than quarterly, it was the consensus of the committee that quarterly meetings would be sufficient. Also discussed was back injuries, whether certain employees who do a lot of heavy lifting should be required to wear back support braces. Carl thought is was unnecessary, do to the fact that they have there own safety meetings, employees are required to watch videos on proper lifting. The other committee members felt the same way, that back braces were more of a problem then a help. The next item was accident reports. Robert felt that the employee should fill out the report with the help of their Supervisor, and not doing it alone. The committee agreed. Robert said he would check on buying safety glasses, but thought is unlikely because we probably couldnt get the budget for it. Gerald suggested that we could order through PSG and get a better deal, if we were able to get the budget for them. The next meeting is scheduled for August 23rd, Robert wanted to meet be for the budget and that's in sept. With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 9:30
