Senior Citizen Board
Regular Meeting
June 19, 2000 ' -
Meeting called to order at 9:35am by Chair Dallas Dillon followed
by flag salute and roll call. Eight members present. Gwen Barney
and Gerald Langan absent. Leo Perez, Area 3, also attended the
meeting.
Minutes of previous meeting were reviewed. Motion to accept the
minutes as presented made by Marie Pilote; seconded by Glenn Ward.
Motion carried.
Treasurer's report: Balance of $5903.78 in checking.
The compressor for the walk-in cooler and freezer is not working
properly. The temperature is too high for the safe storage of various
food items. There is a call out for service people to check on it.
New janitorial service'is in place and is doing a good job..
There was some discussion regarding the "early morning" pool players.
Currently, they reimburse the Center $50.00 for use of the facilities.
Should this amount be increased? They use the facilities Monday
through Saterday, and have indicated a desire to come in on Sundays
also. Ted, at times, opens the door for them before 8:OOam; however,
the official opening time is 8:OOam, Monday through Friday. Dallas
Dillon posed the question as to whether this is a"senior function",
or is it limited to just a few people? Should the $50.00 be raised
to $75.00?? More on this later.
Ingrid presented hercaordinator's report. Thank you for the new
coffee makers. The brewed coffee is of so much more better quality
now and less coffee is needed to make the same amount. She is
expecting some one momentarily to come and check out the compressor.
Who will assume responsibility of those repairs? In any event, the
work needs to be done immediately. Quite a few of the dinner plates
need to be replaced. They have become scarred over time and cannot
be cleansed thoroughly. We should have at least 150 plates.
Donations are welcome. The"Correlle" type are the most acceptable,
since they are easier to clean.
'' 1,364 persons were'served last month, with an average donation of
$2.42 per person. If someone is unable to pay the suggested amount of
$2.50, he/she cannot be turned away. Occassionally, there are special

guests who are not asked to pay. The type of food served is
affected by cuts i,n funding and drop in attendance, especially
during the summer months. '
Dallas stated that we need to be thinking of some sort of "fund
raiser". Albertsons issue a special card to members of various
groups that are punched out for amount of purchase and then is
recorded. After a time a rebate is issued to the participating
organization. Is this something we could do here at the Senior Center?
Leo Perez, Area 3, spoke about the Older Americans Act, which has
not been charged in 14 years. It needs to be updated with increases
in appropiations as well. It needs to be reinstated again by
Congress and is long overdue. Our ldaho Congressional team needs
to hear from all of us regarding this matter.
Motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:00 am.
Next meeting will be July 17, 2000.
