HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-20-1999 SENIOR MINUTES ` � � January 4, 2000 - Minutes from the Caldwell Senior Center Board meeting December 20,1999 President Dallas Dillon called the meeting to order at 9:35 AM. A quorum was not present. Present: Archie Gulley, Dallas Dillon, Gwen Barney, Marie Wiley Nina Vaughn,Margaret Langan - Jerry Langan - Ruby Bonnell Not Present: Glenn Ward, Marie Pilote, Rick Scherer, Mae Huston, Elvin Rothell President Dillon informed the board that Gwen Barney and Nina Vaugh's names have been submitted to the city for approval. George Carsen has declined accepting the appointment. Jerry Langan said he would see that Marie Wiley's name is submitted to the Council also.. The appointments are for a three year term. Dallas asked for comments on the printed docket - there being none he asked for corrections to the November minutes. Minutes were approved as received. Gwen Barney distributed the financial report. She shared that the cleaning costs were higher due to the carpet being cleaned in addition to regular duties. Dallas commented that the outgo $ was more than the ingo$. Gwen reported that the board had paid out $10,677.33 in repairs to the kitchen this year. This included the dishwasher - oven repair, fire fighting, gas smell repair, wiring, installation, plumbing freezer costs and general fire and inspection costs. The auction fundraiser netted $1467.50 and would show on December report. She w�ll do a year end total for the board. Ingrid encouraged the Board to help with the Nutrition fundraiser as funds are tight. Marie Wiley shared that this building is for the benefit of all seniors and we need to get some good volunteers by reaching outinviting folks to take part. Ingrid gave a verbal report as she had been attending a meeting in Emmett all day previously. 1388 meals served in November. December ZZnd is the Xmas dinner. Autumn Wind has donated six hams. Ingrid pointed out that there will be a cut in our federal funds in the year 2000. She expressed concerns about how we can operate with less. The yellow cup helps but not enough . The New Years Dance is cancelled and the dances have been breaking even. She is thinking about an afternoon dance. Dallas Dillon shared that a person must be 60 years old (or spouse) in order to participate in the $2.50 meal donation. The faucets and new gaskets in restrooms were discussed.Ingrid will contact the city for possible help. Marie Wiley asked about the signed agreement between the center and the city. It should be reviewed periodically so we know what it contains. Marie also encouraged us to get the information to the people regarding the proposed cuts in federal dollars. Margaret shared that seniors need to talk to their congressional people regarding the cuts to nutrition . We need to speak out about this concern. ' � It was announced that the heating concerns in the kitchen are better; The city came in an uncovered the swamp cooler. Archie Gulley lit a match under the hood and said the switches on the hood need to be looked at. Jerry Langan said to contact the city again. Dallas suggested that we contact someone from the Simplot Company and Crookham's to help the senior center financially. Marie expressed concern about the Older American's Act not being passed and suggested we need to express our concerns. Under New Business we were not able to vote on new officers, President, V-President, Secretary and Treasurer until a quorum is present. Discussion occurred regarding these positions. � Jerry Langan stated that he did not know whether he would be reappointed ne� year by tlre Mayor to represent the city but shared that he had enjoyed participating on the board ti�s past year.
