FRIENDS OF THE DEPOT AUGUST MINUTES �-�`�-°Z-m- ��

Members present: Debbie Geyer, Margaret Langan, Lenore Johnston
Rudy Lotz, Garianne Goslin and new member Shirley Alsup.
Guests: Frank Smith , Caldwell Model Railroad Club and Carl Blakley
of E. Clampus Vitus organization
Absent: Jim Blacker, John Lee and Clem Sahleen.
Debbie Geyer Ied the meeting .
The Agenda was approved as received. Introductions followed.
The Minutes of the June and July meetings were approved with a
motion by Garianne and second by Rudy. The motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Debbie reported that we currently have $11,000 on hand for FOD. ,
The Interpretive Committee has not yet spent their money. The
display by Weymouth cost $3000. Additional bills are forthcoming.
She informed the committee that all the bricks are now in place .
New Business:
In order to accommodate our guests, it was agreed to move the New
� Business forward. Carl Blakley with E. Clampus Vitus ( an organization
that is dedicated in preserving history) shared a picture display of various
plaques that his organization has furnished depicting historical areas.
This would be a joint participation with FOD. E. Clampus Vitus raises
the funds and does the work. Garianne made a motion that we pursue
this further with the organization. The motion was seconded by Rudy
and the motion carried.
Carl will proceed with his committee and get back to us at a lat�r date.
Layout of Track:
Rudy and Frank furnished a diagram of the two circle tracks. The trains
will run at the same time. The system will have four switches and be
installed in an easy to operate manner. Frank suggested a couple of model
bridges be erected in the cut area. The miniature depot will be typical of
the 1906 era. They wi11 create an interesting background with trees, dirt
and models. Debbie asfced them to get with John Lee regarding the type
of locomotives to be used. The trains etc., are stored at the old city hall.
A bid far the costs needs to be submitted soon. Rudy and Frank will follow
through.
Purchase of Cash Register:
Garianne shared a photo of a cash register that is available for sale due to
� the closing of a local card & gift store. It is light weight and portable .

' Debbie made a motion that we purchase the cash register for $50.00.
The motion was seconded by Lenore and the motion passed.
Leak in the Basement:
The leak in the coal chute of the basement of the depot has been repaired
at a cost of $20Q. Debbie negotiated with the city officials and we will not
be charged. New shelving and a dry area will now allow us to begin to
organize FOD suppiies on September 15
Smart Women Grant for Interpretive Center:
Garianne reported that the finalist for the $2200 grant that was submitted
to the Zion Bank for a pictorial display of woman involved in Caldwell
history is yet to be announced. More on this next meeting.
The Union Pacific Grant will be pursued next year.
OLD Business:
Christmas Event - Old Fashioned Christmas:
Debbie reported that after informing the Chamber that continued renovation
in the depot will not permit us to host the tree lighting event at the depot
plaza in 2007 she learned that they would like us to take on organizing
the event this year anyway. This involves organizing carollers, santa claus,
tree lighting etc., at the Pioneer Plaza. Garianne made a motion that we
� accept this offer. Rudy seconded the motion and the motion passed.
Report on Events -
Margaret reported on the successful August Friday night Express event
and announced the next FOD booth for sales will occur at the Indian Creek
Festival scheduled for September I S Rudy will donate some whistles and
Debbie will order small trains that we can sell along with the shirts and prints.

It was announced that Clem has the Webpage project near completion.
Update on Train Display Merchandise Cabinet:
We have a bid from Steve Nisula to build and paint the Train Display unit.
It will be 8' long, 32" wide and 4' high. The cost is $1600.00. Garianne made
a motion that we approve. Shirley seconded and the motion passed.
Stencil for depot tables & chairs -
Garianne reported that she continues with the stenciling of the FOD table
and chairs.
