 Minutes of September 22, 2004
Roll Cali: Present: Chairman Jon Carter, Jim Blacker, Mark Mobley, Debbie
Geyer, John Lee, Betty Jo Keller and Margaret Langan
Chairman Carter called the meeting to order and asked for additions to the
agenda. Strategic Planning was added under Old Business.
Corrections were made to the August meeting minutes as follows:
"President Carter was changed to reflect'Chairman Carter'
On Page 2 second paragraph 'the need for a full time person to over see the
'Art Train Project' was changed to "the need for a committee to over see
the'Art Train Project.'
Debbie reported on a meeting with local merchants where she shared the
future plans and design of the plaza and parking lot projects. She received
a very positive response. The main concern was dealing with the delivery of
freight needing a turn radius for the trucks. The plan will provide sufficient
space.
Debbie presented the project for the water design and landscaping by RC&D.
There is $400,000 for construction funds. The fountain will be on a level surface
similar to the one at the Grove in Boise.
Discussion followed regarding going to the various service clubs to seek out
sponsorship of benches or historic lamp posts. Also some ownership could
• result from getting a group to be responsible for maintaining the pond. It
was suggested that we ask our sister city in Mexico for a logo of their
city for the plaza. Also that we include them in the purchase of bricks.
The cost of bricks and pavers for the front of the depot was discussed.
Estimated that in front of the door 2,050 bricks will be needed and the
fountain will need 32,000 bricks to be sold. We will look for an agency
to be responsible for selling the bricks. It is expected that we will break
ground in the spring. The benches will cost in the neighborhood of $250.
Plaques will be placed on the benches with the purchasers names and
inscriptions as specified.
On October 1 st, "Coins For the Plaza" containers will be placed with various
merchants in town.
We will be able to use the (501(.c.3) thru the City of Caldwell. It was also
noted that we can use the RC&Development's (501.(c.3).
A need to get under way with a membership drive was discussed. It was
noted that we can begin to have Friends of the Depot exhibit booths at various events.

Chairman Carter said his wife is interested in serving on a committee.
Margaret suggested Jesus and Yolanda DeLeon.
Debbie shared that the RFQ on the Depot looks to be approved for design.
John Lee has located a 70' 1906 passenger car. It is estimated that it would
take $80,000 to restore it to the original status. Dieter Leiph of Meridian has
offered his service free of charge in the restoration. The passenger car is located
near Horseshoe Bend and could be transported here if a location is found.
• It was suggested that we have the Idaho Press Tribune publish an article regarding
the passenger car and seek out interested sponsorship of the project.

• We have been asked to tour the Nampa Historical Museum. Debbie will schedule
a time and let us know.

shared the Jerry Sharp Design which consisted of the state of Idaho and a locomotive. Mark
Mobley made a motion that was seconded by Jim Blacker that
John Lee go ahead with the logo plans.
A Strategic Planning meeting will take place upstairs in City Hall at 10:00 AM
on Saturday, November 6th.
Debbie is going to put together a display regarding "Friends of the DepoY' for
the Indian Creek Festival on September 25th.
