Friends of the Depot Minutes
June 22,2005
Members Present: Lenore Johnston, Clyde Hally, Jim Blacker, Betty
Jo Keller, Bill Stobie, Jon Carter, John Lee, Mark Mobley, Debbie
Geyer and Margaret Langan
Jon called the meeting to order and asked for any additional agenda
items. Caldwell Railroad Club and KWEI Radio were added items
under new business and Art Train and board member change were
added under old business.
The minutes of the May meeting were approved as read.
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony:
Debbie reported that she talked with Dale Peterson about a
Buy Idaho tasting booth in the Plaza for the event. Kim Kerrick is
interested in helping to organize the ceremony. Tentative date is
September 16 Moreen Oates will be involved with the Indian
• Creek festival.
Debbie received permission to purchase engineer hats for all the
committeemembers. She suggested we also wear our Friends of the
Depot t-shirts and host a booth where we can sell sweat shirts and
t-shirt merchandise at the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The gym equipment now in the Depot was discussed. It was noted
That the group has plans to relocate and probably will be out by
The ribbon cutting event. Jon Carter stated that people attending
may want to come in and see what it looks like before the
renovation begins and then view it later also.
Environmental Report — Cole Poe
Debbie distributed a memo from Liza Morris of Cole Poe architects.
She reported that she was going to a meeting regarding issues with the
Building Department and updating everything to code. It was pointed
out that we need to keep the original door on the far wall .
Fund raising report — brick and granite sales —
It was reported that our goal was to se11200 bricks. We have to date
sold 263 bricks and granite stones. The four benches and one trash
bin are paid for. To date we have raised $23,437.84. The cost came
� To about $7,000. leaving us a balance of $16,000. A motion

was made by John Lee and seconded by Lenore Johnson to pay the
remainder of the shirt money owed to the city . Motion carried.
Interpretive Layout:
Clyde Hally handed out a 3 page print-out of the train model.
He identified objectives and the committee discussed various ideas
for the units. Clyde has established a place to assemble the units.
Chairman Carter thanked Clyde for his work and appointed a sub-
committee consisting of Clyde, John and Bill to continue working
on this and report back to the comrnittee.
New Business —Caldwell Railroad Club
Mark Mobley introduced Bill Stobie of Caldwell. Mark will be
Stepping down from the Advisory Board and Bill was approved
to serve as his replacement.
� KWEI Radio Station
Margaret shared a letter from the Spanish radio station showing the
15 spots through-out the month of May where they advertised the
Friends of the Depot brick sales . This was in exchange for a brick
for the radio station.
Plaza Construction Update
Debbie stated that the plaza is at 50% of completion. The engraved
bricks will go in within the next two weeks. We are on budget.
Debbie says we can continue to sell bricks at the 4 of July celebration.
The ribbon cutting event discussion included booths, tables and chairs,
music and people. Debbie will encourage the stores to have sidewalk
sales. A street dance with bales of hay to sit on is planned.
Lenore Johnston shared information from Paul Anderson a former
Railroad employee. She reported on a trip that she and Margaret
took to visit the Nampa Depot Museum. Debbie suggested putting
an ad in the newspaper for a volunteer with historic preservation
expertise to assist us in securing items from the community.
