HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-19-2005 DEPOT MINUTES i , FRIENDS OF THE DEPOT MINUTS October 19, 2005 Members present: Debbie Geyer, Clyde Hally, Betty Jo Keller, Margaret Langan, Bill Stobie and John Lee Due to Chairman Carter's absence, Debbie Geyer led us in an informal meeting. Copies of the September 14 minutes were emailed to the members in September. Model Railroad Design: The model railroad design was discussed. Concerns about a construction site were aired. The cabinet drawings were reviewed. Clyde will call on Roy Reeder to get an up-to-date estimate on the cost involved. It was stated that the glass for the units may be the most expensive expenditure. Historical Track Pieces: Betty Jo, a mernber of the Historical Cornmission, relayed that they i are asking if we are interested in a section of railroad track. The railroad ties are not included. It was decided that we do want at least 16-20 feet of the track to use as a feature in the plaza parking lot area. We will be on the look out for a railroad push cart to go on the track. Award: Debbie shared the Robert K. Wood Award that was received from the Sage Community Resource agency.. This award was in honor of the work of The Friends of the Depot and the on-going Development of Downtown Caldwell. Grants: Debbie stated that we made it through phase II of the grant now on to Phase III. CDBG grant must be submitted to Department of Commerce on November 18, 2005. Sage Community Resources is assisting with the grant application. We have a good match. The closing of Phase I resulted in being on schedule and within budget. A draft of the Intermediate Design Submittal on the Rehabilitation of the Depot was distributed to the board members. Cole Poe Architects repre- sentative Lisa will be at our November 9 meeting . A project manual is • also available for review. The Idaho Transportation Department will have their review back within the next few weeks. Interior colors , Page II will be discussed at the next meeting. Our goal is to have the depot proect completed by August of 2006 to allow for the planning of the summer events in the plaza. The summer events could occur on the first Friday of each month with food, band music and fun. Two events have already occurred in the depot. A birthday party and a wedding. A contract and the Depot is available to rent for $150.00 with a $50.00 key/cleaning deposit until the renovation begins as the bid process may be delayed by a month or two. It was agreed future events for the depot will be celebrated separately from the Indian Creek Celebration. A tentative date of August 4 has been established for the 100 Birthday Celebration of the Depot. A committee to plan this event will meet on on the 2 Tuesday of each month at 2:00 PM. All are welcome to attend. Ideas for the event include a barbershop quartet, cloggers, games, dress your pet contest etc., It was also suggested that the members of the Histarical Society dress in old time costume. Clowns and perhaps a hot air balloon could be available to provide rides for attendees. Artrain Show: • An Artrain committee has been established to plan the October or November event for 2006. Details with U.P. regarding track are still being worked out. Albertson college students and the Fine Arts group are interested in participating. An art show in the depot could serve as a fundraiser to help defray costs. The first meeting will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 25. Additional Depot ideas: Debbie shared photos that she took at the Heber Valley Railroad Museum that showed a wooden locomotive that served as a display unit for selling items in a gift store. She has received some response to the ad asking for volunteers and railroad items. A water- color print of the depot has been donated. It was painted in 1985 by a visiting artist. Permission was granted for us to reproduce the painting and sell frameable copies. 500 copies would cost $590.00. It was agreed that we use this picture as a fundraiser for the depot. Debbie will receive reproduction bids frorn other print companies in the area and report back. Next Meeting November 9th Respectfully submitted: Margaret Langan — Secretary . • i •
