Friends of the Depot Minutes ���'
Apri13, 2007
The meeting was called to order by Chairman John Lee.
Members present: John Lee Chairman, Debbie Geyer, Clem
Sahleen, Lenore Johnston, Garianne Goslin, Jim Blacker. Bill
Stobie and Margaret Langan
AGENDA:
The agenda was accepted.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES;
Minutes were distributed and read.
MOTION/Blacker, SECOND/Stobie to approve the March minutes.
Motion carried.
BASEMENT PROJECT:
Debbie report that Jacob has the sheet rock up and the boiler dismantled.
He will turn in the old boiler for scrap metal. This will help him cover
costs. It is cast iron. The pump installation will now follow.
• It was agreed that we should have some recognition for Jacob upon
completion.
Action: Jim Blacker will continue to contact Jacob and the progress.
STATUS OF THE TRA1N CABINET LAYOUT:
John Lee report that he and Bill Stobie will meet this week at the
depot. Debbie reported that the owner of the little wooden train on
loan to us has picked up the train and will bring it back when we are
nearer completion of the box where it can be housed.
Action: John Lee and Bill Stobie will work on a final plan.
STATUS OF PHASE II -
Debbie reported that all bids came back $200,000 over bid. We had to
deny everything and are in the process of re-doing the entire procedure
with an opening date of 4/16/07. The parking lot project will have to
be scaled down. It was agreed that we can come back later and add
landscape etc., to the project.
ITD is still reviewing the depot building phase II project.
DEPOT GRANT FUNDING;
• Clem reported that we have missed the February deadline to submit

an application for purchase of costumes for the historic events of the
depot. Debbie reported of another possible grant through Albertson's
College that is due in April. Discussion resulted in asking for $5,000.00
from the grant for costumes for five men and five woman. '
Clem will follow up with the application information.
VALLIVUE HIGH SCHOOL - TRA1N DISPLAY FOR DEPOT;
Debbie distributed a photo of the wooden train display cart. She was
not successful in contacting Dave Ferro at Vallivue high school.
Jim Blacker and Margaret will make contacts with a couple of
sources.
CHRISTMAS EVENT AT THE DEPOT:
Jim Blacker will continue to contact West Valley Medical Center
regarding a possible "Festival of Trees" at the train depot this Xmas.
UPDATE ON WEB PAGE LAYOUT:
John Lee reported that he has been in touch with his nephew. His
• nephew and teacher have put together information. Debbie asked that
she and Gerianne be given access to the website.
John Lee will follow up.
UPCOMING EVENTS FOR FOD BOOTH;
Margaret and Lenore submitted the following dates for a booth:
Friday Nite Express - June lst, July 6�' and August 3`
4 of July in Memorial Park, Canyon County Fair, July 26 through 29�'.
Indian Creek Celebration Sept. 15�', August 15�' Buckeroo Breakfast.
The Chuck Wagon Barbecue was also suggested. The need for additional
volunteers was discussed.
Margaret will follow up with an article to the paper regarding the need
for volunteers. She will contact local Reader Board owners to display
our need. Jim Blacker suggested we advertise the depot being available
for rent with a flyer and that it go out with the Caldwelll Chamber
monthly packet to over 500 members. Clem shared a copy of a poster
that will advertise the Friday Night Express. The themes will be the
following: Country Western, Fiesta and Jazz & Blues. A large tent will
be rented and placed in the plaza.
OLD FASHIONED CHRISTMAS AT THE DEPOT:
Discussion included that the railroad display and train are a strong feature
� that can be combined with a quilt show or whatever. Clem is

• working with the Christmas Parade Committee and will follow up with
our desire to tie in someway with the parade. Perhaps we could advertise
that the depot is open after the parade with cider, entertainment, etc.,
Chairman Lee asked the members to come next month with additional
ideas for entertainment.
NEW BUSINESS;
Debbie presented a report regarding prices of tables/chairs for the depot.
It was agreed we need to purchase ones that will last.

� It was suggested that we purchase 72 chairs and 12 tables.
Motion/Garianne SecondBlacker - Motion carried.
Jim Blacker asked Debbie to take a look at both Caxton and Home
Depots tables and chairs and the quality before purchase.
Meeting adjourned at 12:55 PM.
