Cooper noted that John Watson was absent and had asked to be excused for business in Reno, He sent his report with Cooper. 1) CHAIRMAN'S REPORT Cooper welcomed Pat Inglis to the meeting. Pat is the new representative of the men's association to the board. � � . Cooper read a petition to the golf board signed by 71 golfers asking that the number 3 hole � at Fairview be kept as a par 4 not a 3 par. Lenny Stroup said he and Ron Wrest are neither one in favor of making it a three par. Ron Wrest said they had redesigned the rolling screen that has been used at the tee off. He said this screen will work if we can keep the golfers from moving the tee blocks over to the other side. Ron said he wants to build some mounds and plant trees off to the right side of the green to discourage golfers from trying to cut the corner. Ron said he still wants to rebuild the green and make it larger. After some discussion a motion was made by Dan Rowell and seconded by Shirley Akagi that we rescind our motion that was passed to make hole 3 at Fairview a par 3 and return it to par four status. Motion passed unanimously. Cooper read a letter from Wayne Johnson resigning his position as player assistant (marshall) at Fairview Golf Course. He said he is quitting because his season golf pass, which he purchased at the city employee rate, has been taken away. He received a letter from Monica Jones, City Clerk that said that seasonal city employees were not eligible to buy discounted season passes. Shirley Akagi said Monica Jones is trying to get the policies put in place that have been neglected in recent years. Ron Wrest said he has talked to EIJay Waite and Monica Jones about this problem. The policy will be that seasonal part time employees will not have to buy a pass, but will be given playing time not in prime time. S �enny said he would taik to Wayne and see if he would consider coming back under the new pol icy. 2) REPORT FROM JOHN WATSON In John's absence, Cooper read John's financial report. Cooper said that John told him that most courses in the Valley were down from last year. (copy of report attached). 3) REPORT FROM LEWNY STROUP Lenny was down for the year about $6000. This is a 3J drop from last year. Lenny said that local Idaho courses were down about 4.5% (copy of report attached). Fran Craeger asked Lenny if the Ladaes Association could start a rose garden at Fairview. They wou�d like this to be a memorial garc�en. She said they would like to honor association members as they pass on 4) REPORT FROM RON WREST • � r Ron said tha the tree for Leona Rodwell is planted behind the 14 green and behind number � 10 green. This tree wi�l evenually replace the telephone pole as an aiming point for #10 green. Ron said they have torn down all of the old buildings at Purple Sage. All of the white rock has been removed from around the parking lot and 800 bulbs have been planted in that area so they will bloom next spring. The rock is being used for drain in the nursery green. Fall fertilizing is finished. Ron said the next big project is redoing the sand traps. Pat Inglis asked about the frost policy at the courses. Ron said that he is trying to get a policy in place to be the best for both courses until the grass goes dormant we must stay off when frost is present. Ron said that they will mow the greens late Friday afternoons and then Saturday mornings the golfers can go as soon as the frost is gone. 5) NEW OR OLD BUSINESS Pat Inglis led a discussion about the purpose and direction that the golf courses are taking. He said that the men's association would like to remind everyone that the golf courses in Caldwell were built and supported by the goffers of Caldwell. Pat said that one of our long- term goals should be to keep golf affordable for the citizens of Caldwell. 6) No more business. Meeting adjourned � �
