1) CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
•
Cooper introduced Mr. Bob Zach and Mr. Ken Sheldon from Life Flight. Mr. Zach is the Life
• Flight Customer Service coordinator from St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. Ken
Sheldon is the program manager for Life Flight and also a para-medic. Mr. Sheldon told the
board about the problems they are experiencing in landing at the West Valley Medical
Center in Caldwell due to the wires, foliage and trees. He said that one of the obvious
solutions would be to land on the Fairview Golf Course ciose to the green on hole number
three. Mr. Zach said that the helo-pad would be Caldwetl's pad. and would be used by not
only the West Valley Medical Center but also by ambulances because sometimes patients
are moved to Boise hospitals without even going through the Caldwell hospital.
Cooper said that the golf board would like to cooperate in this venture because we realize
the importance of it, but as a golf board our primary responsibility is to look out for the
integrity of the golf courses.
A discussion foliowed on the possible places to put the landing pad. It was noted that the
green must be moved to a different spot. Some board members objected to the idea of
doing this because of the expense and the possibility that the hole would have to be turned
into a three par instead of a par four. After further discussion Lenny Stroup suggested that
the board members use his golf carts and drive to hole three and take a first-hand look at
the proposed landing area. Cooper said this was a good idea, so the members left the
clubhouse and proceeded to hole three.
After returning from the trip to hole three Cooper said that there really isn't much more that
we can do today and it will probably have to be a joint venture of the golf board, the City of
Caldwell, Life Flight, and Parks and Recreation. There wil{ have to be a lot of peaple
involved. Cooper said the ultimate decision would be made by the City Council.
S Pat Inglis said he had reservations about giving up a part of the golf course. Cooper agreed
and said that as much as we would like to help the Life Flight we aren't going to let them
take our golf course away from us. They will have to work out something else. We are not
going to give up that hole. Jeff Osgood said that we would like to he helpful, but it must not
cost us any money and it can't stop play.
Cooper said we need to move on to the rest of the meeting.
REPORT FROM GLEN KUSHLAN
Cooper told Glen that most of the golfers want the colored yardage stakes put back up.
Glen said the greens have been punched. Cooper asked about the proposed sand bunker on
hole 7. Glen said he would do it when they have time.
2) REPORT FROM JOHN SHREINER
Cooper complimented John on the condition of the Fairview course. John said they have
put a railing on the tunnel as a safety precaution. John said the green punching is done.
3) REPORT FRON VINTON HOWELL
Cooper asked Vinton Howell if he wanted to report anything. Vinton said he did some
. investigating on the front of Purple Sage. He said some decorative trees are a possibility for
.
„ .
there. Vinton said he had priced fencing and it would run about $6.50 a foot. Vinton said
they wili work on the cart paths at Purple Sage by cutting back the tree roots in a test area.
4) REPORT FROM JOHN WATSON
John said Purple Sage is up $500 over last year. At Purple Sage, a lady stepped in a hole
and twisted or broke her ankle and wants to know what action she should take. Vinton toid
John that she should file a claim through City Hali. John said we have all our charity event
tournaments filled. John said these are important revenue producers. Pat said he asked
Mark Owen about the Coyote Open and Mark said they are going to have it at River Bend
again this year. Jahn said he didn't think it important to pursue this event.
5) REPORT FROM LENNY STROUP
Lenny and John both reported that the punch cards are not selling very well. Lenny said
that Fairview is about the same as last year in revenue. He said season passes are selling
very well, especialiy the Fairview only passes. Lenny said he and John Shreiner would like
to see a new championship tee box built on hole number one. He said he also would like to
put up out-of-bounds stakes down the left side of number one fairway. Pat Inglis disagreed
with this idea. Shirley Akagi said a lot of the ladies hit over to the left side of the fairway. It
was decided to let Lenny try this on an experimental basis and report back to the board at
the next meeting. Pat said the Men's association is looking for worthwhile projects to help
finance and perhaps the new tee box at Fairview could be this project.
 6 NEW OR OLD BUSINESS
Shirley Akagi said Goif South Idaho has contacted her. They want us to be in their brochure
again at the same price. The board told Shiriey to go ahead with this venture.
Cooper asked John Shreiner what improvements he would like to see happen at Fairview.
John said he would like to see the new tee box on hole one. He would also like to see some
cart paths built. Lenny said he would like to see cart paths in certain places.
After a discussion the improvements the board would like to see at Fairview are:
1) New championship tee box on hole one.
2) Cart paths built in certain areas
3) Fencing, where possible, around the entire course
4} Replacing trees as needed.
No more business meeting adjourned.
