HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-11-1992 GOLF MINUTES �� CALDWELL GOLF BOARD MEETING .� Meeting of the Caldwell Golf Board was held March 11,1992 at 8:00 a.m. in the Conference Room at City Hall. Members Present:Chairman Don Tolley, Lloyd Nelsen, Mike Garman,Bill Moad Kris Inouye, Shirley Akagi & Council Dan Ozuna. Edie Stuthiet: Representing the Ladies Association. Craig Beukelman: Representing the Men's Association. In attendance were Supt. Gordy Crockett, Pros.John Watson & Lenny Stroup. Copies of the February minutes,along with the golf receipts for February copies of the Agenda also a breakdown on Jim MCGarvin's cart storage and a copy of Policy & Procedures for Caldwell Golf Courses were handed to each member. Chairman Don Tolley reported that at the_end of September the audit showed a surplus of $79,120,estimated was $76,747, showing $ 2;373. Don then called on John Watson to give his report. COMMITTEE REPORTS: John said the 21 days that he has been open had been a great success, that in 11 days he had turned over $50,000 to the city. John said the reasonfor very little merchandise was due to the fact that the weather as a rule is bad and that he has his merchandise shipped by the middle of March as he has to pay for that at that time. John said the signs at both courses have at the very bottom "No children under 6 years of age allowed on course" John was asked to keep a record of Trail Fees Names, Daily & yearly; John said the Varsity Players (2 groups) play at Purple John gave a list of the planned tournaments to chairman Don. John reported that the Marshal cart was in need of repairs, after some discussion it was decided to get it repaired for this year, the cost would be about $1200. Kris Inouye moved to get old one repaired and get a new one in 1993, this was seconded by Bill Moad, motion carried. John had a request from Art Wilkes on the added season pass of last year as his wife Fran had a stroke and was unable to use it, Lloyd Nelsen moved that we give her credit on a new pass this year seconded by Shirley. Motion carried. John said that Korey Mereness had asked if he could stay in the clubhouse at Purple Sage , but the Board felt that it would create alot of problems with other departments and also could create alot of problems so the answer was no. Lenny Stroup: Lenny said he had more rounds of golf played here the first two days tMen� he would have for the month of April in Wells, Nev. Lenny said he has been collecting the Trail Fees, has also sold alot of season tickets. Lenny said he would like to see the Gold Golf Card as he feels its very good advertising. Bill moved that we try it for a year seconded by Mike Garman, motion carried. Lenny asked why Fairview was not listed in the business section of the� phone directory( it is listed in the yellow pages). Lenny said he would take care of it, with Dan Ozuna. �� , q Lenny asked when the Marshal starts and he was told he could use him when � he felt he was needed. Lenny asked about the kids that create a problem hunting balls in theditch this has always been a problem. Lenny said he will not buy balls from these kids and he trys to get the golfers to do the same, Lenny felt that it would be a good idea to go to the schools and talk to the kids about the dangers of getting hit with a ball etc. It was suggested a letter be mailed to the schools by the city, Dan Ozuna to work with Lenny on this. Danny Ozuna asked if the Cinco De Mayo" tournament could be changed to May 3 instead of May 9. The men have the scramble at Fairview on the 2&3 of May . Danny asked if it could be held at Purple Sage on the 3rd of May, but the policy is that both courses can't be closed at the same time. John said if they went with an afternoon shotgun at 1:00 p.m, for about 75 players then it could be arranged at Purple.. Danny to find out more on this and report at next meeting. � Gordy Crockett: Gordy said it should be o.k. to play off the new tee boxes by the middle of April. He said he had the ladies tee boxes done( numbers 1,2,3,6 & 7) Men's tee on #9. to date he has laid 25,000 sq.ft of sod has about 16 more to go. Gordy said the painting of the parking lot can be done right away. Gordy has painted a a big number 8 on the cart path on # 7 so people can find the way to #8., also he has ordered the scrub brushes. Gordy said he has hired a new man The Bag Rack at Fairview is being� moved. Lenny & John Schriener have talked this over and it is changed to be on the patio edge. Mat will be installed as soon as possible. The tee box on # 4 Gordy, Lenny, Don & John Schriener to work this out) Keep box as close to the right as possible. Don Tolley had a picture of a Plaque that was very nice but the board felt it would be expensive and probably would be run over with carts etc. Craig Beukelman had a sample from Steve Fouts that everyone liked, more on this at next meeting, Kris Inouye & Mike Garman: Kris said they have about $12,000 pledged towards the new tee boxes. Mike had the bill for the R.R.Ties which came to $4,250.00 not including tax.. This was from D& B, also D& B said they would give $1500.00 either in merchandise or money so Mike was going to ask Dick Schrandt if they would deduct $1500.00 from the bill. Don Tolley thanked Mike and Kris for the great job they have done. Kris asked if we were going to take the people out and play golf with them and show them where there money was spent, then treat them to a steak dinner. These are the plans as of now. Kris asked the other board members if they knew of anyone that would be interested in donating , he would certainly appreciate their help. Bill Moad: Casino Night date is set for April 18. Bill had a copy of the Flyer. Bill said he would take care of the advertising. Also an invitation would be mailed out to all the donors. ,� ' , ,Don said he would like to set a date for Fairview on Meet Lenny Night" Don said he would furnish the beer. Don and Lenny to set the date. The Bitch Session was set up for March 15, around 2:00 p.m. at Purple Craig and Bill were to take care of this as Don was leaving for Salt Lake. The Patio cover at Purple Sage was discussed and Don appointed Lloyd to work with Gordy on this. Gordy said that Jim McGarvin had finished the Shelter at Fairview yesterday Don Tolley asked everyone to check the sheet with "Jim McGarvin Cart Starage' Board members all agreed if it could be worked out that it would be best to buy the remaining 12 spaces from Jim. Lloyd and Don to talk to Jim with Dan Ozuna. � Mike moved that we go ahead with the plans to buy seconded by Craig, motion carried. John said he had about three on the waiting list, but the board feels that the way tickets are selling we wouldn't have any problem renting spaces. Craig presented Don Tolley with a$500.00 check from the Men's Association to be used onthe #1 tee box. Craig also presented a draft from Del Jones on the #12 ditch that could be covered for about $2500. This was tabled until October. Kris moved, seconded by Bill, motion carried. Shirley said that one of the ladies mentioned there was graffiti written on the outdoor restroom at Fairview( inside walls, etc.) Gordy said he would get with John Schriener right away. Gordy said that two people were willing to work on the cart shed at Fairview in exchange for a Corporate Pass" one is Idaho Concrete & Jim MCGarvin. Kris moved to accept this seconded by Mike, motion carried. There was quite a discussion on the use of a Corporate Pass, only 4 at one time can use it . Code number also name and must have card. Don was to have Betty Jo draft a letter to be mailed to all.corporate� pass holders. Bill Moad asked if an unloading ramp could be done at Fairview. Gordy would talk to Idaho Concrete when they do the cart storage. Bill asked Gordy if the yardage stripes at Purple were going to be painted Gordy said he would get them done. Gordy said they move the pins on Monday, Wednesday, Friday & now on Sunday. Bill asked about the new tee box #15 & 18=split use? More on this next time. Lloyd thought the committees were doing a great job, also the Pros are doing a good job. Edie Stuthiet said she had a complaint from Maxine Lovan that the roof on the cart shed above her cart leaks. Gordy said he would check this out. Bill asked if they could plant flowers along the red cinders by the clubhouse where they park the golf carts, this to be done when the sod is finished. ,i ' Lenny Stroup had a very good idea as to keeping records of what is taken in at the golf courses. Lenny had a copy of his accounting procedure showing expenses,money taken in such as green fees, cart rentals, etc. A record of everything , including the cash register tapes etc, this way the city would know how the course operates. Don asked Lloyd to be in charge of this committee as he has had two courses in California. Lloyd to work with Lenny, John. Don Tolley would also be on this committee. The Board members felt this is the way it should be taken care of. Don asked John if he would go along with this, John said whatever the city wanted he was willing to go along with. The committee to work on a new account procedure for the city's benefit of total income,this would also help the golf board for future reference. Information not necessarily available to total board. Only to Mayor, City Council and Chairman of Golf Board. The next meeting date has been changed to April 15, 8:00 a.m. City Hall.
