HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-08-1992 GOLF MINUTES � CALDWELL GOLF BOARD MEETING Meeting of the Caldwell Golf Board was held January 8,1992 at 8:00 a.m . in the Conference Room at City Hall. MEMBERS PRESENT: Don Tolley, Kris Inouye, Mike Garman, Bill Moad Lloyd Nelsen: Edie Stuthiet: Representing Ladies Association. Craig Beukelman:Representing Men's Association: MEMBERS ABSENT: Shirley Akagi: In attendance were Troy Vitek, John Watson and Gordy Crockett: Don Tolley was nominated as chairman by Edie Stuthiet, seconded by . Lloyd Nelsen, all voted in favor of Don. Chairman Don welcomed all new board members ,also announced that Laura was the secretary for the golf board. Don explained that Teri Ottens would attend the meeting about 8:30 to explain the policy for hiring a replacement for Troy. Don asked Laura to explain about the Caldwell Community Foundation Grant a check in the amount of $2,545.00, this is to be used for the patio cover at Purple Sage.( Letter attached thanking the community). Troy was praised for the way he has run the Fairview Golf Course and w?11 be greatly missed , he has done an excellant job with the Junior Program. The best of luck at Gooding. ( Letter attached). Teri Ottens explained that it has to be advertised for a Pro in both the papers and she had already contacted "TEE Times" P.G.A, they would have . it in their paper right away . Teri explained �hat after the 20th they could start interviewing any applicants. Don appointed a committee of Lloyd Nelsen, Bill Moad and Do � also he asked John to attend the meeting. Teri Ottens did explain that the city is now taking over the Concessions and that there will have to be an increase in salary as the Pro would not have the Fountain. Teri had discussed with Troy about his merchandise and what the city could purchase from him. Troy said he had four carts and he was selling them to people, so he didn't have worry about that. Troy did mention that the cash register was his and he would be taking it with him. Chairman Don told John if the weather permitting that Purple should be ready to operate early in February, John said he would do whatever the Board asks, he is open by the middle of February and that's when the weather takes a turn again. Don did remind John that if weather permitting that Purple Sage should _ be open at least by the 15th of February. John said he is always open by the middle of February at least week-ends . but with the weather it's a guessing game. John said he would do whatever the Board wants. Don said the Golf-Liaison is Danny Ozuna, also Jack Raymond, only one needs to attend and is allowed a vote. Don stated that the Pros and Gordy are not members of the Golf Board They can give their reports and then are free to leave. John reported on the architect by the name of Gaylan Coates of Arizona he said he would need a discr�ption of the Sprinkling System,type of equipment, etc. � Gordy said he had all that so when the time comes they can pass this information to him. � Gordy was asked to please contact the architect at Kenniwick and hAVE report for next meeting. Gordy gave the report from the Black Canyon Irrigation on covering the ditch on #12, the way they want to do it would mean a very expensive method besides tearing up the course. Board told Edie and Craig to let the members know in a letter as to why the ditch won't be covered. Gordy said they have been working on the new tees that 2-3 4-5-6-7 9-10 are done they are working on 16 �-17 today. 14 was fine that 15 would be a surprise that left # 18 to do. Kris Inouye asked Gordy about the Irrigation at Fairview, Kris asked Gordy to file for water -rights on the drain ditch . Gordy was to see about it right after the meeting. Gordy was asked if he would be getting rid of the trash pile on #2, � Gordy hoped it could be done as soon as possible. - Troy said he had some pictures of benches and yardage signs that can be put at Fairview.( Mountain States Advertising, they will sell the advertising and take care of vandalisim also.(attached a copy) Troy had a request from Jerry Jackson for the annual U.of I Scramble to be held June 26 9 hole play this is all green fees. Permission granted. Cinco De Mayo tournament to be held at Fairview on May 9 this also would be green fees. Lloyd Nelsen moved that we allow this tournament, seconded by Edie,motion carried. Don had Laura give a report on Jim McGarvin's cart storage that had been built in 1991 - he was to pay the city $300. for each space sold to date this has not been paid-$3600. due. Laura and Don had talked with Teri and Lisa and in checking found out this was still due so a letter was being mailed to Jim this morning. All members have a copy of inembers buying space from Jim and also Jim's letter stating he would pay this amount due. , Craig gave a report of the men's tournaments- March 15 breakfast& scramble 2 man B.B. June 21 & 20. . League will start in April=May 1& 2=2 man scramble at Fairview. . Men's Club Chapion: August 8& 9: October 18 closing Scramble at Purple. Craig mentioned that the Chamber of Commerce had asked him if they could have a Scramble , the board said O.K, find out the dates and see the Pro. Mike Garman thanked Troy for all the good work he has done at Fairview wished him the best of luck at Gooding. Laura told Mike she would give him copies of the minutes for the past year so he could know what has been discussed, also a copy for Lloyd. Troy said a new sign would be needed at Fairview when they get a new Pro( Clubhouse giving rates etc. With no further business meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m. � Next meeting to be February 12-city hall- 8:00 a.m. Respectfully Submitted, �� - � �� Don To11ey,Chairm Caldwell Golf Board . . Discussion of the new tee boxes: Don had suggested that perhaps the two associations could plant flowers,etc. Kris Inouye thought getting different sponsors for each new tee would get some money in . Bill Moad said this could be used for a fund-raiser, that if people could see what the money goes to,they would probably support it. Don Tolley asked Bill to take charge of the Fund-Raiser. Last year it was held April 17- Gordy was asked when the tee box on #4 at Fairview would be done this was suggested at the July meeting, moving tee up (120 yds) tee to be on the right side.
